Meet Timothy Nguyen, 32, a Jesuit novice living and volunteering at Blanchet House. In one week, he's already repaired all our bikes, organized a writing workshop, worked in the kitchen daily, and plans to play the ukulele for café guests.

Why?

“I want to put peace, hope, and love out into the world and work toward a good cause. One of our pillars is working with the poor and marginalized. We practice a ministry of presence by listening and bringing unconditional love to every encounter,” he explained. “I try to be a gift to anyone who needs it.”

Originally from Long Beach, CA, Timothy expects to move every 2-5 years to help where he's most needed.

A guest in a wheelchair arrived at our door in excruciating pain, scared to get in an ambulance or go to a hospital.

Our peer support staff sat with them on our sidewalk for hours, calling medical outreach workers who specialize in situations like this. The amazing CHAT team with Portland Fire & Rescue arrived, earned trust, and took them to the hospital. It turns out they had been hit by a car a few days earlier.

Fast-forward to today, when they stopped by for lunch. They got the medical care they needed and a hotel room to recover in. What a difference from the day we first met them.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is show up, sit, and not give up on someone.

VENDOR HIGHLIGHT: BLANCHET FARM

If you’ve been coming to the McMinnville Farmers Market this season, you may have already met the folks from Blanchet Farm! We’ve been happy to welcome them back to the market this year, where they join us on the first Thursday of each month.

Located on a working farm in rural Carlton, Blanchet Farm is a unique, cost-free residential program for men overcoming substance use disorders. Residents live and work on the Farm for seven to nine months, building skills, confidence and a foundation for a more stable future through case management, peer support and meaningful work.

That work happens right on the Farm, with residents caring for animals, tending gardens and beehives, and learning skills like woodworking and welding.

When Blanchet Farm is at the market, you’ll find seasonal vegetables, farm-fresh eggs and a small collection of handcrafted wood goods. What they bring varies throughout the season, so be sure to stop by and see what they’ve been working on!

Blanchet Farm has been part of the community since 1962, and 2025 was their first year participating in the McMinnville Farmers Market. We’re grateful to have had them back for another season and love seeing the connection they’ve built with our market community.

For Blanchet Farm, the market is about more than selling products. It’s an opportunity for residents to showcase their skills, connect with the community and build confidence and self-esteem.

And when you shop their booth, you’re supporting that mission. Every product purchased directly supports Blanchet Farm. The program is free for participants and made possible through the generosity of the community.
