Shining our staff spotlight on Rebecca, 's spectacular technology manager! 💾

"Most of my work happens behind the scenes, behind a screen, and often behind a tangle of cables," says Rebecca, who ensures that the entire team have the tools and tech support to do their best work. "Supporting the people who are out there every day serving our community is incredibly meaningful."

In her two years at United Way, Rebecca has had the opportunity to grow, particularly as a leader. "United Way has helped me discover that I can be a leader in many different ways. I’ve learned to be a better advocate for myself, for my community, and for the things I believe in."

Recent and upcoming changes to SNAP eligibility may make it harder for some households to qualify for or maintain SNAP benefits by expanding work and reporting requirements.

Portland Press Herald's Stretched Thin series, reported by Gillian Graham, looks at the financial hardships Mainers face today. This reporting affirms what United Way staff learned from surveys and conversations with 3,159 Southern Maine residents. Across communities, backgrounds, and experiences, stability feels increasingly out of reach.

H.R. 1, a recent federal law sometimes referred to as the “One Big Beautiful Bill," includes changes to programs that help Mainers meet basic needs.
