United Way of Southern Maine

United Way of Southern Maine Improving health, youth opportunity, and financial security for all in Southern Maine

At United Way of Southern Maine, we bring people and resources together to tackle our community’s greatest challenges—food insecurity, housing instability, and lack of access to child care and health services. Deeply rooted in our community, we listen, respond to urgent needs, and build long-term solutions that strengthen local resilience and create opportunity so all can thrive. Because when kids get a strong start, families are stable, and communities are healthy, we all benefit.

Bright futures start long before the first day of school. ✨️

Thanks to your support, United Way helps more families access high-quality child care, so kids get the strong start they deserve.

We help aspiring teachers overcome obstacles, invest in quality providers, and advocate for policies that benefit families. This year, we launched the innovative new nonprofit, United 4 Child Care, advancing access in partnership with local businesses and adding nearly 200 child care slots to our community.

Early support can make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

Another incredible month of home runs! Each time the lighthouse is illuminated in celebration, Lighthouse Credit Union makes a donation to United Way of Southern Maine. 🙌 Thank you, Lighthouse Credit Union and the Portland Sea Dogs for supporting our community through United Way!

After each homerun and Sea Dogs’ home victory, the lighthouse will illuminate in celebration, announcing that Lighthouse Credit Union will be donating funds to United Way of Southern Maine during the 2026 season. This new initiative by Lighthouse Credit Union and the Sea Dogs aims to raise awareness of Portland’s community needs with The United Way of Southern Maine being the recipient of this partnership.

United We CAN is back on Friday, September 18! Help fight food insecurity in Southern Maine by collecting non-perishable food for our neighbors. You can also sign up as a team to build larger-than-life sculptures with non-perishable food and compete for coveted awards. 🥫🏅

The 10th United We CAN will also be the last. It's been an incredible run, and we are grateful to the 40+ companies that have built 120 sculptures and collected more than 278,000 meals over the past decade. We are excited to share what comes next. United Way remains dedicated to fighting hunger and ensuring our neighbors have their basic needs met.
