This Olmo has been on a journey—from iconic road bike from the ‘80s (maybe late ‘70s?) to losing gears in the great singlespeedification of the ‘00s, to getting its seatpost stuck and arriving to us with rattlecan orange wheels. It’s now got gears (not that hard since the crank—Shimano 105!🤌—remained a double), we had a ‘80s era 700c solid wheelset, and we like gears over here :-)

Here’s to living the best ketchup and mustard life and sunshine bike rides!

We have exciting news to share over here. After some intense internal discussions these past few months we’ve made a decision as an organization and are ready to share. After 4 + years of helping out at the shop, observing our practices, and helping folks with their bikes, we think Celly is ready and we’re handing over the reigns of the organization to her. You might notice some changes around here, but our mission and work remains the same: getting good bikes to folks who need them!

Here’s to Celly’s first bike season as Executive Director at 🥳🔧🚲

This bike was donated from a beach house with 2 early 90s huffies. It’s a late ‘80s CyclePro. We accepted all 3 bikes and were glad we did, mostly for the opportunity to prove this bmx mtb could fit 26x2.35 tires. Also cuz the bmx huffy will actually maybe be a good bike for a kiddo. And we like to feed our scrap pile with steel wheels and unsafe frames 🧌🚲

It’s hard to find moments to document the work we do, partly because it’s hard to keep up with all the work there is to do! We get a lot of pictures of the bikes themselves, but not enough of our volunteers and stuff—which is why we’re so grateful to our friends who came in and captured a late-summer (very early fall?) Volunteer Night. Either way, there was light in the window after 6pm which seems like a long time ago. Thanks Mark and Ellen for coming by and capturing the collaboration and energy of our shop!

Hey Portland friends! We’re reaching out to invite you to this event in ONE WEEK! We love bike adventures and the connections that comes from riding your bike with the world around you. This is why Bikes For Humanity PDX is proud to sponsor an epic night of adventure and compassion at !

On Tuesday, October 22, there will be a special screening of the award-winning documentary, We Are All In This Together, which follows Daniel T***a’s bicycle journey across America with no food, no money, and his search for human connection.

Over the course of 7 months, Daniel encounters many different experiences like trying to outrun a tornado in Kansas and crossing the Sierras, Rockies and Appalachian Mountain ranges. However, the most impactful experiences come from the interactions that he has with the diverse group of compassionate Americans that he meets along the way.

This deeply captivating story, with soundtrack provided by Portland’s indie rock band, Portugal. The Man, has received 19 awards at different film festivals across the world including, “Best Humanitarian Film” at the San Francisco International Film Awards and “Best Inspirational Film” at the New York International Film Awards.

50% of all ticket sales will be donated to the Rose Haven shelter in Portland, which is a day shelter and community center serving women and children who have experienced trauma in their lives. Daniel T***a will also be in attendance and holding a Q and A after the event.

Posting on the grid to make sure nobody tries to brave the scorching late afternoon heat to come volunteer! Stay cool friends! Find a nice place to beat the heat—our shop ain’t it!

In other news we have bikes! We’ll be back tomorrow morning—reach out if you want a test ride: [email protected]. Available bikes at link in bio!

Thanks for visiting and taking one of our bikes on an extended test ride! One benefit of extended volunteering at b4h: if you move somewhere else you always got a bike to ride when you’re in town :-)

1st off, we recommend all front fenders come with a safety attachment! Find king this in the shop today makes me wonder: Does this make sense? Do the old style attachments already serve as a safety release? It’s snug and will break if a rock etc. gets sucked up by the wheel. Strong opinions only!

We’ve got a stock of bikes of ready-to-roll bikes! Now’s a great time to get an affordable used bike from us—lots of options that won’t last long! Don’t let the next batch of 70 degree days find you without the bike of your dreams. Considering getting a bike, an upgrade or an addition to your fleet? Check out our bikes for adoption on our page! Or share with a friend who might want one of our bikes. Why?
1) liquidating our refurbished stock now puts us in a better financial position to grant bikes to clients referred to us from partner organizations.
2) we need space to accept more donations!
3) Each of these bikes represents hours of collaboration, hands-on volunteer effort and the dreams of our donors who want to see their two wheelers ride again! Set our bikes free!

We’re around by appointment Monday-Thursday.
