BECOME AN “O-G” CHILD TUTOR

Do you have a bachelors degree and love teaching children? Would you commit 100 hours over a year to become a certified practitioner in the Orton-Gillingham method of instruction for children with dyslexia? Would you find personal pleasure in fostering self-confidence in children learning to read? If so, inquire about our classroom studies and one-on-one after-school student tutoring to be held at our Center located near the Portland Jetport. There is no cost to the program participants.

Tutors satisfactorily completing the program will be accredited and can earn continuing education credits from the University of Maine. Graduates may be offered paid tutoring positions at the Center after completing the training program, and/or work independently or with local schools to serve these children. These are great opportunities for retired schoolteachers who love to work with children and might like some extra money from a part-time teaching position.

If you are interested in participating in this learning program that will begin in May, please contact the Portland Children’s Dyslexia Center at 207-773-4949 or [email protected].

Please also contact the Center if you know of children with dyslexia needing our special services, whether home-schooled or attending public, private or parochial schools. Students are served at no charge to the parents. More information on our educational program may be found at www.childrensdyslexiacenters.org.

Prevention is not about waiting and seeing. It is about acting early. When we invest in strong foundational literacy from the start, we protect students from struggling later. This is why early instruction and early intervention matter so much.

Words to live by from an Olympian…

In a stirring display of grit and determination, American track and field sprinter Noah Lyles has won the men's 100-meter final by finishing the gut wrenching race in an unbelievable 9.784 seconds. He was just 0.16 seconds of breaking the legendary Usain Bolt's Olympic record of 9.63s.

“I lhave Asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and Depression.
But I will tell you that what you have does not define what you can become.
Why Not You! “

Today Arundel Lodge is proud to announce that we have made our largest investment in our community to date! Arundel Lodge is partnering with the Scottish Rite - Portland Children's Dyslexia Center and will provide 7 teachers from RSU 21 and 1 teacher from The School Around Us, with the requisite training to be accredited in Orton-Gilligham Multisensory Structured Language Education. For 25 years the Scottish Rite Children's Dyslexia Centers have assisted children in regaining confidence and their self-esteem through proven methods of reading instruction, tutoring and dyslexia remediation. Arundel Lodge has long served the community schools with its annual Most Improved Student Night, College Scholarships and Bikes for Books reading incentive program. It's our sincere hope that we can make a true measurable difference in a childs life. I personally would like to thank our Officers led by our WM. David Crowell and all of our members of supporting this endeavor. I would also like to thank The RSU 21 for accepting this donation and most especially, I would like to thank all of the staff that have volunteered to spend May - December with 50 hours of classroom training and then spending over 100 hours of Practicum time from September through next June! Your dedication is greatly appreciated!
