Beacon Village may be forced to close.
Multnomah County is facing an $87 million budget deficit, and the Homeless Services Division has recommended significant cuts—including the closure of several shelters and the loss of nearly 700 beds.
Beacon Village is currently among those recommended for closure, despite representing less than 1% of the County’s budget gap.
Over the past several weeks, we’ve taken action—reaching out to County leadership and activating advocacy efforts. Many of you have already written letters, and we’re encouraged to share that the Board is taking a second look at the recommendation. Your voices are being heard.
Beacon Village is more than a shelter. It’s a place where people find stability, experience healing, and take meaningful steps toward transformation, long-term housing and independence—all within a supportive neighborhood community. We believe decision-makers need to hear directly from those who have seen this impact firsthand.
We are asking for your help.
Would you take a few minutes to write a short letter sharing why Beacon Village matters to you—and why it should remain part of the County’s response to homelessness?
You might reflect on:
• The importance of a compassionate, community-based shelter
• The transformation you’ve seen, or believe is possible
• The role Beacon Village plays in our neighborhood and broader community
As you write, we encourage you to reflect our values: compassion, kindness in communication, and generosity of spirit.
Please send your letter to [email protected].
This week is especially important. The County is actively reviewing community input ahead of its April 16 deliberations, and letters submitted now will have the greatest impact.
Thank you for standing with Beacon Village. Your support at this moment truly matters.
