Bratwurst with mashed potatoes, gravy, and sauerkraut
Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Soy Pineapple Chicken or Soy Curls over Quinoa Salad w/ Kale, Squash, Carrots, Tomatoes, Cucumbers and a Miso Ginger Vinaigrette.

All made from scratch in our kitchen this year alone.
All distributed to the community at no cost.

We fill free fridges and partner with organization to ensure that there is no such thing as extra food. All it takes is some thought and 3 hours each week.

Please help me thank Bhron who leads this program along with help from Audrey, Beth and others.

Hot days means a cold salad for dinner. Using what is abundant from our farmers market hauls, all you need is a few ingredients to pull it all together. Quinoa, a staple in every Gluten-free household, is a complete protein with all nine essential amino acids and goes well with almost any ingredient to make a salad, eaten hot or cold.

✨ 100 Family Meal slots were opened at 9:30am today, Wednesday, August 19.
🙀 The list is filling up fast, already halfway+ there. When the form is open, you are able to make a Family Meal request and choose from home delivery or pickup. You can find all the information on our website which is 📲 www.milkcratekitchen.org under 🖱 Request a Meal.

💡REMEMBER—
-Each family meal has 4 servings
-Fully cooked, plated in an aluminum oven-safe pan
-Always has protein, complex carbs, vegetables
-Reheat and eat, keeps for 6 days refrigerated

-We accommodate & prioritize meal access using it.

- We are in the kitchen now doing MCK Chopped. Cooking fresh and rescued ingredients into nutrient-dense meals using what we gleaned. These become Grab N Go meals
- Quantities available are limited and offered to free fridges, mutual aid, and community partners

What does your Tuesdays look like?

Our's is 12 hours filled with planning, paper work, and plenty of computer time. I don't know how Sherielyn does it, it's not my favorite. Especially when dealing with a migraine.

It's important, especially with everything coming down the pipe line. It's how the two of us are able to maintain MCK and it takes a lot.

You probably didn't notice the clean floors, counters, carts, organized metro shelves and kitchen. Being from the kitchen I noticed. Restaurant standards maintained by volunteers.

Grateful. Humbled. Emotional.
Good thing I'm cutting onions, no one will notice. 🧑🏼‍🍳😅😅

10 people and over 27,000 lbs of food,

So far in 2026, our Food Rescue Team has increased our effort by over 30%

It could come from a number of places. We partner with farmers Montavilla Farmers Market and Sellwood Moreland Farmers Market . We save food from restaurants like Lardo Grand Central Bakery | 🥖🥐🍴 Ken's Artisan Bakery & Pizza The Smoking Jay Salt & Straw Ice Cream and PasturePDX to name a few. Also amazing community partners that share the wealth when products come in they can't use.

I'm the worst. I took 4 pictures over a 5 day period.

"Chef don't worry about it, this isn't for the 'gram. This is for the community. 🤯😓

It's sad that our hard work is often boiled down to how good of a picture I take. It doesn't show the 40 volunteers it took to bring the 700 meals together. It doesn't reflect the fresh brightness of the chimichurri. It doesn't warm the soul like a full stomach.

Good thing we aren't going for a Michelin ⭐ I'll try harder next week.

Oregon Zoo how many elephants is this?

In 2025, we rescued over 28,000 pounds of food, creating meals to give to our community at no cost. This year is no different, unless you consider the 30% increase a big deal. 🤯🤯🤯

Utilization is the name of the game this week. Chef loves chimichurri so much, he puts it on almost everything. When we were offered 4 cases of flat leaf parsley, he knew what he was going to do with it. Toss into a 3 bean salad. High in fiber, protein, vitamins and nutrients and super tasty! What’s not to ❤️
