Friends of Tryon Creek A mission to inspire every community's relationship with nature in this cherished urban forest.

A community support non-profit Friends of Tryon Creek was founded in 1970 by a group of forward-thinking women who came together to preserve the forested canyon that borders Lake Oswego and Portland. Fifty years later, Friends of Tryon Creek envisions an inclusive community connected to this cherished urban forest now and for future generations.

10/17 Guided Hike Plants & Trees - Meet at the Nature Center at 10am and join a Naturalist on a hike through Tryon Creek. Topics will vary week to week and are geared to ages 5 and up, but all ages are welcome. Parents must accompany kids on all hikes. Groups of 10 or more should contact the park in advance. Otherwise, there's no need to register.

* Note: the event is free, but an Oregon State Parks parking fee is required. Either a $10 day fee or display your annual parking pass good for all parks that have a fee.

Join Friends of Tryon Creek for a Salmon Bake in thanks to our Indigenous partners and the entire Tryon community. Before or after a fall walk in the park, stop at the Friends Circle near the Nature Center to see and sample a traditional salmon bake prepared for us by the Bruno family. No registration needed. See you there!

10/10 Guided Hike all about Spiders - Meet at the Nature Center at 10am and join a Naturalist on a hike through Tryon Creek. Registration is open for our Tryon Forest Winter Adventures for youth ages 5-11 at Tryon Creek State Natural Area.

Join this monthly community science monitoring program to observe seasonal changes in key culturally and ecologically important plants. You will learn to identify these plants in all life stages and contribute to critical local data! This surveying follows the same plants year-round to monitor climate change impacts and help inform our restoration efforts—directly contributing to supporting adaptative restoration to keep the forest happy and healthy.

🍁Events take place once a month on Fridays from 9:30-11:30.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Volunteer activity includes hiking up to 2 miles down to the creek and back up to the Nature Center.
