Malaya PDX condemns the illegal detainment of Filipino-American activist, Christina Pasion, by the Marcos Jr. regime. We call for her immediate release!

On June 30th, Pasion was arrested and red tagged by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) while attempting to receive medical attention. Her only crime was to integrate with and learn about the life and work of Indigenous communities in Laguna.

This is one of the many ways the fascist Marcos Jr. regime continues to criminalize those who call out the government on state violence and continued repression against the Filipino people.

Release Christina Pasion! It is not a crime to go home!

✊🏽Malaya Portland stands with Rivera Mansions workers and Samahan sa Gresham!

🏥Workers at Rivera Mansion have not received a wage increase over the last three years and shifts are often understaffed. The cook for the whole facility is expected to cook over 100 meals a day, which led to a workplace injury.

☎️Because of the numerous issues at the facility, workers called for a meeting with management. There request was ignored by Jana Amparo, Aura De Olazo, and Andrei Amparo who instead offered to meet with employees on a one-on-one basis.

📈Caregivers, workers, and residents deserve dignified working and living conditions!

📝Take action and sign the community letter of concern to show support for the workers of Rivera Mansion!

💥Samuel decidió deportarse voluntariamente a Guatemala debido a los numerosos obstáculos que tendría que superar para permanecer en Estados Unidos: costos legales exorbitantes y una larga espera en un centro de detención.

💥Aunque optó por la deportación voluntaria, fue trasladado prematuramente a un centro de detención a miles de kilómetros de distancia, perdiendo un tiempo precioso para visitas familiares mientras espera la fecha de su deportación.

Calling all community members to support a North Portland family this weekend as they get ready to relocate to Guatemala!

💥Samuel has decided to self-deport back to Guatemala because of the many hoops he would have to jump through to stay in the US - exorbitant legal fees and a long wait time in detention.

💥While he has chosen to self-deport, he was prematurely moved to a detention facility thousands of miles away, losing precious time for family visits while he awaits a deportation date!

💥These fascist detainments and attacks on our migrant communities force families apart for weeks, months, even years! How dare the US government continue to fund family separation over services for the people!

This Thursday, May 28, join the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines Oregon and the Reject Militarism Coalition for a night of art and education as we prepare to oppose Portland's annual Fleet Week! We'll paint signs and banners to bring to our mobilization on June 6th, plus have discussion together to understand the realities of US militarism around the world. ICHRP OR members will report on solidarity missions to the Philippines last fall, where they spent time with Filipino farmers and indigenous peoples resisting militarized land grabbing in Negros, Mindoro, and Bukidnon.

Let's build the anti-war movement! See you there!

📢Justice for the Negros 19! Stop the killings! 📢

☎️ Call Senator Merkley, and urge him to:

Condemn the Negros 19 Massacre!
Call for an independent investigation!
And inquire as to whether US security assistance and weaponry was used!

On April 19th, the Armed Forces of the Philippines massacred 19 people during indiscriminate strafing operations against the civilian peoples of Negros Island. Two of the victims were American citizens, Lyle Prijoles and Kai Sorem.

Despite repeated calls for Senator Merkley to speak out against the massacre, he has remained silent.

We are calling on community members to call Senator Merkley and urge him to publicly condemn this massacre and call for an independent investigation!
