We’re getting stoked for our upcoming 8-week Mazamas + Peak Recovery PNW BCEP (Basic Climb Education Program) mountaineering course which provides students with the knowledge and skills required to safely climb glaciated peaks. This will be year two of Peak Recovery sponsoring this course, and this year our recovery team will include 12 students and a 15+ person team of volunteer instructors. We’re so grateful to our community partner Mazamas for saying “yes” to this partnership! We’re also thankful for Alano Club of Portland for providing the funding for all of Peak Recovery’s programs, and our BCEP sponsors, Mountain Shop, and Petzl 🏔️

Peak Recovery PNW’s backcountry crew is getting stoked for our upcoming American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education avalanche safety course March 1st - 3rd which will be led by Dave Watson (he/him) from MountainSavvy on Wy’east (Mt. Hood).

This 3-day course includes 8 hours of online learning and 2 days of field sessions. It will build on the skills our 2023 Intro to Splitboarding grads learned in last spring’s course on Koma Kulshan (Mt. Baker) with Jere Burrell (he/him) owner of Guided Exposure 🏂

Thank you to our splitboard program sponsors Alano Club of Portland, Guided Exposure, Mountain Savvy, AIARE, Weston, Spark R&D, Backcountry Access, Inc., Hyperlite Mountain Gear, and Rocky Talkies🙏

Thank you to everyone who applied for our 2024 Mazamas + Peak Recovery PNW Basic Climb Education Program! We were overwhelmed by how many applications we received for this free 8-week intro to mountaineering course 🏔️

Peak Recovery uses a lottery system to determine class cohorts. We also reserve a certain number of spots in each of our courses for people of color, LGBTQIA+, and individuals from other historically marginalized communities. Applicants will be notified by email by Saturday, February 10th.

Thank you to our program sponsor Alano Club of Portland, BCEP community partner Mazamas, and BCEP sponsors Mountain Shop and Petzl for your support!

Yesterday, Peak Recovery PNW welcomed Sarah Lydecker (she/her) to our STAFF team, and we couldn’t be more excited! She’ll be working alongside our co-founder & Director Ali Marie Koch (she/her) as Peak’s new Program Coordinator & Outdoor Educator.

For the last year, Sarah has been pouring her heart and soul into designing and leading fun, accessible, trauma-informed courses for Peak’s rock climbing program. She identifies as an athlete, climber, and artist in recovery, and she’s already a beloved member of Team Peak. Please join us in congratulating Sarah on her exciting new role 🥳

Happy New Year from our team of adventurers in recovery at Peak Recovery PNW 🏔️

Yesterday, a group of our program grads, instructors, and volunteers got together for a NYE tour on Wy’east. Our group splitboarded, ski toured, and snowshoed up the Palmer Glacier, then we enjoyed a post-adventure potluck in the parking lot Timberline Lodge. We’re so grateful for the amazing community we’re creating at Peak Recovery, and we’re stoked for the adventures ahead in 2024!

Some of our Peak Recovery PNW grads, instructors, and volunteers spent New Years Eve on Wy’east splitboarding, ski touring, and snow shoeing up the climber’s trail from Timberline Lodge to the top of Palmer Glacier. It was an epic day of adventuring filled with good vibes, community, and many beautiful conversations about gratitude, hopes & dreams for 2024, and recovery. We’re excited for what’s ahead for in 2024!
