Kenya Community Education and Action - KCEA

Kenya Community Education and Action - KCEA KCEA is a non-profit supporting the Maasai community with educational scholarships & life skills. KCEA mainly works with girls from Narok County.

In these communities there is a blend of both traditional and non-traditional Maasai people which sets a powerful stage for positive change through the new perspectives of community members themselves. Many girls in these communities face cultural challenges like be forced into early marriages and female circumcision. KCEA seeks to empower girls and sponsor them through secondary education and beyond. This gives them more ability to improve their lives and that of their rural communities.

In addition to supporting girls’ education, KCEA stays involved with students after they graduate and helps their families and communities in a variety of ways. Here is just one sample.

Two weeks ago, James, the father of former KCEA student Silvia, was involved in a motorcycle accident which resulted in a fracture of the upper end of the tibia. Following the accident, he remained at his home in Iladoru, a remote area where access to medical services is limited.
Due to difficulty in accessing healthcare from his location, the KCEA vehicle was used to reach his home and transport him to Tenwek Hospital for medical management.

At the hospital, he was assessed and later underwent CPT multiplanar fixation surgery for the fractured tibia. After the surgical procedure, James remained in the hospital for one week. Arrangements were the made to transport him back to his home to continue with his recovery.

Last week, John accompanied Irene, KCEA’s most recent clinical and surgery graduate, to visit James at his home. She assisted with cleaning and dressing of the external wound following surgery and this wound care will continue regularly for the next month, when James must attend a follow-up clinic visit at Tenwek Hospital for further medical review.

According to Irene’s assessment, James condition is improving and he is making steady progress in his recovery!

UPDATE ON FLOODING: Heavy rains have continued for the second consecutive week in Kenya, causing flash floods across the county and resulting in significant damage in many areas.

John shared that they have begun to feel the direct impact in their neighborhood. The road located just a few meters from John and Peris’ home has been severely affected, making access difficult. As a result, John had to hire several local community members to help dig the car out and fill the deep trenches and dips that have formed due to the flooding. This is after a very bad, long drought experience in which many families lost their animals.

Yesterday John went to Mara to check on accommodations for the mission teams with upcoming church service trips. Roads that were already challenging have been made much more difficult with the flooding.

Please share love, positive thoughts, and prayers for John and the entire KCEA family in Kenya. ❤️ 🇰🇪 ❤️

Behind every KCEA student is a heartfelt story and a generous sponsor, and that is definitely true for Silantoi.

When the KCEA staff was visiting Ololii Primary School, the school principal, Madam Margaret, introduced them to Silantoi and shared her urgent education case. John was able to visit her home and learned that she was a former student but was unable to report back due to lack of school fees and essential learning supplies.

Silantoi’s mother shared her story with visible emotion, explaining that despite her willingness and excitement to join secondary school, they are unable to afford the required costs. She broke down in tears and Madam Margaret, her former head teacher, offered comfort and encouragement. Silantoi has demonstrated great potential and a strong desire to pursue her education.

After appealing to one of the KCEA sponsors, Solantoi is now being sponsored and has returned to school!

Chief Principal Cecilia of Maasai Girls Secondary School received John, Solantoi, and her mom warmly in her office. She thanked KCEA for saving Maasai girls from early marriages and female ge***al cutting, sending them to school, and broadening the possibilities for their lives and their communities.

The time in Principal Cecilia’s office was both joyous and emotional. Silantoi and her mom were moved to tears. John was then able to introduce Silantoi to the other KCEA sponsored students at this school, who warmly took her in. ❤️

We are pleased to report that KCEA students have reported to their respective schools for their next term!

A new education system was implemented by the Kenya government that created some new challenges, but the KCEA staff has been able to help our students successfully navigate these changes.

We wish all KCEA students a successful term! ❤️

As you prepare to wrap up 2025…if year end giving is on your heart, please consider KCEA!

As an organization, so much was accomplished this year, including mission trips by Connection Pointe Christian Church and Crossroads Christian Church, adding Emma to the KCEA staff, hosting impactful workshops, and supporting many girls in receiving a quality education…just to name a few highlights!

2025 has also provided many challenges, including periods of both drought and heavy rains, some sponsors who were not able to continue their sponsorships, growing numbers of students needing sponsors, and a new online supporter portal that came with some growing pains (but will assist KCEA with better communication and tracking in the long run)!

If you need a reminder of what’s at the heart of KCEA, just watch this short video of our amazing students! ❤️ Then consider making a year end donation to KCEA at this link: https://kcea.reachapp.co/donations/new

>>> Whether you are able to make a donation at this time or not, please share this post so others can learn about KCEA and help support our mission to educate Maasai girls!

Thank you and Happy New Year!! ❤️🇰🇪❤️

The KCEA Lifeskills Workshop was held this week at a Primary School in Narok with the theme “Inspiring Growth and Readiness for Tomorrow.”

The two-day workshop engaged students in sessions on personal purpose, growth mindset, hygiene, financial choices, service, and community involvement. Activities included interactive discussions, group work, and reflections, all aimed at equipping learners with practical life skills. The workshop concluded with a certificate and recognition ceremony for students completing high school, followed by closing remarks and prayers.

Thank you to everyone who made this impactful workshop possible! ❤️

UPDATE: ALL 3 STUDENTS HAVE BEEN SPONSORED!! Giving Tuesday generosity lasted more than just one day… And now Sylvia, Melody, and Silvia have been sponsored and will be able to start school in January!! THANK YOU!!

Giving Tuesday may be over (thank you to those who donated!) but we still have 3 students in need of sponsorship so they can begin school in January!

Meet Silvia! Silvia is 18 years old. She lives with her family in a remote village. Her family depends on livestock farming for a living, which is very unstable due to droughts. Silvia is a very smart and talented young woman who loves singing and wants to be a Software Engineer after completing school.

If you are interested in sponsoring Silvia or another student, please go here: https://kcea.reachapp.co/sponsorships. If you have questions about KCEA or sponsorships, we would love to answer them! Feel free to post a question or send us a private message.

❤️ Please share this post and help ensure that all 3 students are sponsored before the end of the year!! ❤️
