Oregon Handlers Fund was created from a passion to serve and break barriers. I was blessed to have people that believed in the same. In 2021, we received what we thought was the funding opportunity of a lifetime with the SEED grant through the City of Portland. It indeed was a nightmare, from the start. Miscommunication, staff members leaving, system changes, invoices being paid months behind (like waaaay behind), no guidance etc. The extensive and consistent delays on their part (because none of this was our fault and that's the truth) forced us to come to a horrible decision. As of February 1, 2023 Oregon Handlers Fund is dissolving as a Non-profit organization. I don't have the mental, emotional or physical capacity to run the gauntlet of gaslighting that is the City of Portland and the s**t show we've had front row tickets too. So no it wasn't a misappropriation of funds etc as we had no funds to misappropriate.
Thank you so much to Casey, Christopher, Justin (rest in Love), Alaiyo, and Mason for all of their hard and tireless work. Thank you to the Cannabis Community that has donated and supported our efforts in any form or fashion. Thank you to the BIPOC community for your support, thank you to our 71 permitted applicants for believing we would do what we said. My deepest apologies to those we weren't able to serve. To those of you that support us as we grieve this loss, immense gratitude. To those of you that are celebrating this loss, it's my hope that when your giggles and back talk have ended; you pick up the torch and do this work. Because this work is highly needed. We're proof that it's needed. Do it. Do it better than me so that it just gets done. I'll be going back to educating Budtenders to treat patients and get back into my Doula work. In addition to focusing on my now failing health.
Peace and Gratitude, OHF
