Thank you to everyone who joined us in our fight to reject billions of dollars in debt and a risky scheme to seize Maine's electric grid.

Thank you to the 15,761 Mainers who joined our coalition.

Thank you to the 137 organizations, labor unions, businesses and associations who stood up to oppose Question 3.

And Thank you to the hundreds of thousands of voters across the state who said no to Pine Tree Power.

It is Election Day!!

Love seeing our volunteers and team in Scarborough, Westbrook, Augusta and Rockland this morning reminding Mainers to vote NO on Question 3.

Question 3 is a risk we cannot afford!

Jim Betts speaks out against Question 3.

Nothing in this referendum guarantees the rights of union members and as a long time Democrat and union member, Jim points out that this plan is not complete and misses key issues.

Vote NO on 3

"Regardless of our individual views of the utilities, we cannot learn what Pine Tree Power will cost, nor how many years it will take to determine the price. We’ve seen nothing documenting the impact it would have on our utility bills, on reliability or, importantly, on the clean-energy progress Maine is making."

David Brenerman, Gorham

Unanswered questions are the primary characteristics of Question 3 (the Pine Tree Power referendum) on the Nov. 7 ballot. I’ve had the honor of serving Portland as its mayor, a city councilor and member of the Maine Legislature. A critical part of those jobs is asking questions and getting answers...

"I urge you to stand in solidarity with the union members and business leaders opposing Pine Tree Power and vote no on Question 3."

"I struggle with such an aggressive proposal that has no step-by-step plan on how Pine Tree Power will do a better job interconnecting renewable energy projects. This uncertainty will disrupt investment in new clean energy in Maine, forcing this necessary and growing industry to hit the pause button while politicians and lawyers battle for years about Maine’s energy future."

Chris Byers, owner of Branch Renewable Energy in North Yarmouth

"When I look ahead to the chaos and confusion that Question 3 would create, I see that my home state is considering making it impossible for me to do business here."

"Statements supporting Pine Tree Power have lacked some important detail regarding costs and profits of the proposed publicly owned utility.

The contention that the utility would not pay profits to anybody overlooks the fact that the company hired to manage the operations likely will be part of an out-of-state utility, which will expect to receive profits on its work, and those profits will not remain in Maine."

"I see a lot of people comparing Pine Tree Power with other consumer-owned utilities across the state. To me, that’s like comparing one wild Maine blueberry to the largest pumpkin at the Skowhegan Fair.

The smallest consumer-owned utility has just over a hundred customers, while the largest has fewer than 13,000. Central Maine Power and Versant serve more than 800,000 customers and about 95% of the state’s electricity load. Most of the small COUs don’t even have long distance transmission lines."

Count me as a “no” vote on Question 3."

We had a great morning talking to the employees at Bath Iron Workers about the real risks and debt around Pine Tree Power.

Billions of dollars in debt, Hundreds of millions of dollars in interest to big banks, and NO guarantees.
