Seattle is going to divert 50% it it's police budget to other community safety and rehabilitation programs. Where I live we have a program called CAHOOTS that already respond to many of the 911 calls instead of the police. An armed officer is actually not needed for a lot of the call the police receive and often other agencies if funded could provide better services with better outcomes for less money. I'm happy to see another city moving to expand the tools they use address public safety!
