Linda K. Johnson, a dance-based conceptual artist and longtime force in Pacific Northwest performance, presents 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘍𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘍𝘢𝘭𝘭 at PLACE, a landscape architecture studio in Northwest Portland. The retrospective and program series expands from her Mycelium Dreams Project, a durational cartography of Portland’s dance community, bringing together relational maps, interviews, action drawings, posters, costumes, ephemera, and a new solo performance. Across archival materials and participatory workshops, Johnson treats dance as a living record carried through bodies, sites, documents, and the communities that keep moving together.⁣

Patricia Vázquez Gómez (Portland) is an artist and educator exploring the social functions of art through printmaking, video, and community-based projects. For the 2026 C45 Triennial, she debuted a multi-channel sound installation in the gallery at PSU’s Schnitzer School of Art that expands on her long-term collaboration with Mayan families in Northeast Portland. The work centers on their evolving relationship with maayat’aan, an Indigenous language from Yucatán, Mexico, and musicians’ responses to its melodic spoken intonation. Accompanied by an artist’s book modeled on a Mayan codex and new large-scale drawings, the project investigates the vital role of art in preserving cultural knowledge, sustaining Indigenous languages, and making visible the living histories carried by diaspora communities.⁣

Highlights from keyon gaskin’s performance in sidony o’neal’s 𝘛𝘈𝘕𝘗 𝘋’Æ𝘙/𝘚𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘕𝘌 + 𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘎𝘠, which was on view Aug 27 - Oct 4 at Barn Radio.

sidony o’neal (Portland) is a conceptual artist and writer whose practice uses ideas from mathematics, computing, and industrial fabrication to examine how systems of knowledge become material. For the 2026 C45 Triennial, o’neal presented a new iteration of their 𝘛𝘈𝘕𝘗 𝘋’Æ𝘙/𝘚𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘕𝘌 + 𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘎𝘠 installation at Black-led music club Barn Radio, using perforated Tyvek to create an architectural surround for an ambient sound piece composed by Adee Roberson, DJ sets, and movement work by keyon gaskin. Based on the molecular structure of an insecticide associated with the 1940 Natchez Rhythm Club fire, the perforated design eulogized histories of racialized harm and transformed them into space for healing.

Meech Boakye is a Portland-based interdisciplinary artist whose practice centers on collaboration with multispecies kin, including plants and fungi. For C45, Boakye presents 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘗𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺 at the Paragon Gallery at PCC Cascade, a two-part installation that explores purity as a performance and considers how the body changes as it learns to be watched, recorded, touched, and transformed. A new video ranges from marble extraction in a mountain quarry to the artist being slimed in a backyard wildflower meadow, reframing the familiar children’s television trope of the “slime pour” as an experience of vulnerability, shame, and desire. In the adjoining gallery, touchable cast soap relief sculptures offer a form of aftercare, inviting viewers to consider how matter can hold memory and emotion. Sound and scent carry the installation from the locker room of an indoor pool to the garden, incorporating sensory traces that blur the boundaries between the bodily, the environmental, and the mediated.⁣

Johnson is joined by artists, collaborators, and colleagues intimately connected to the work of choreographer Keith V. Goodman (1955–2009) to recirculate his work into and through the community. With permission from his family and in collaboration with Nichole Stewart Graves, holder of Goodman’s archive, Johnson will lead a conversation with those who worked closely with him, followed by video footage from across his 30+ year practice as maker and educator. Where does the dance live, and how is it held, when the dance and its maker are no longer here to witness? Frank Heath (New York) is known for detective-like videos that employ deadpan humor and elaborate conceptual pranks to challenge the viewer’s perception of truth and institutional authority. For the 2026 C45 Triennial, Heath debuts 𝘗𝘰𝘯𝘺 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 at Lewis & Clark’s Hoffman Gallery. The film documents the National Pony Express Association’s annual “Re-Ride,” an elaborate reenactment of the short-lived mail service that carried letters by horseback relay from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, from 1860 to 1861. Through this obsessive act of historical reconstruction, Heath examines how myth, logistics, nostalgia, and national identity converge in the performance of American history.
