We present to you : Transgressors, an exhibition presenting now and future Indigiq***r ancestors who move beyond boundaries in life and art. There are lots of reasons for you, your classes, and the community to visit this exhibition. Come make use of the big reading/feedback table in the back that is set up to comfortably seat a group of 20. Meet for a class this semester in the Hoffman! The exhibition opened today (Thursday January 22nd). Gallery hours are Tuesdays-Sundays 11am-4pm. If you would like access to the gallery for your class outside those hours, just reach out.
We are deeply honored to be hosting this show. Transgressors is an Indigiq***r exhibition curated by the amazing Felix Furby and Anthony Hudson (Lewis & Clark’s 2024-25 Native Artist-Scholar in Residence). It was first mounted in late 2024 at the Chachalu Museum. The exhibition celebrates past, present, and future Indigenous Two-Spirit and q***r identities through art, honoring ancestors like Shimkhin and contemporary artists alike, moving conversations about q***rness to the forefront and challenging the idea of art as static artifacts. The exhibition features works from a.c. ramírez de arellaño, Evan Benally Atwood, Geo Soctomah Neptune, Lehuauakea, Qahir-beejee Peco, Roin Morigeau, Steph Littlebird, Walter Scott and Jeffrey Gibson (the artist who represented the US in 2024 at the Venice Biennale).
Artist Steph Littlebird is helping with programming with the exhibition (thank you to the Ford Family Foundation for helping make this possible).
Please join us for the following events and spread the word (the Hoffman website will get updated accordingly - I just wanted to get this out right away for syllabus planning and the likes):
