Volunteers needed!💚

Maine Friends of Animals are eager to recruit 15-20 volunteers to participate in the Yarmouth Clam Festival’s parade on Friday evening, July 17th at 6pm.

This year’s parade theme is “Comics and Cartoons.” Because many comics and cartoons feature characters who teach empathy and compassion, demonstrate kindness toward animals, or are animals themselves, we believe this theme is a wonderful opportunity to share our message of kindness to animals.

Beloved comics and cartoons such as Bambi, Dumbo, The Lion King, Snoopy, and Zootopia feature memorable animal characters while teaching the importance of empathy, compassion, and kindness. We will be walking the one-mile parade route, so please wear comfortable walking shoes.

For the parade, we will have animal mascot costumes (including an elephant and a firefly), a large banner, and colorful signs to raise awareness and encourage parade spectators to be kind to animals.

If you have any animal or animal cartoon character Halloween costumes tucked away, they would be perfect to wear in the parade! This is a great event for children, and we warmly welcome family and friends to participate.

The more participants we have, the stronger the message of love, compassion, and concern for animals. We hope you will join us on July 17th to help make a positive difference for animals!

Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service changed the definition of "harm" under the Endangered Species Act. For years, projects that caused major habitat degradation were legally considered to harm endangered species, and this kind of harm was prohibited. In fact it was a lynchpin of how the Act helped endangered species survive. This has been revoked, and major habitat degradation is no longer prohibited. This opens the way to suddenly legalized destruction of the places that endangered species live, the places crucial for their continued existence.
