From Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Video Productions Inc.:
I met Roy Jay in early 2011. As a kid I knew of him through his radio show from way back in the day. He found me walking around the Oregon Convention Center at a citywide job recruitment fair. I had a small video production business and he hired me to do various projects for the African American Chamber of Commerce, SmartPark Garages and Project Clean Slate.
To say Roy Jay saved my business is an understatement, as I was struggling like most minority small business owners. I was kept busy doing videos for Roy's various projects and even traveled to Washington, DC, in 2013 to tape the events and festivities at the Congressional Black Caucus and Travel Portland's Gala Banquet.
At that event we met legendary civil rights leader and Congressman John Lewis and later gave him an award at the banquet.
As a kid growing up in NE Portland I never thought I'd experience the many things I did by working with Roy Jay. He appointed me as a board member on the AACC with other local legends like Margaret Carter, and I'll be eternally grateful for that brief experience.
He's both a mentor and friend and he's enriched my life by knowing him. I've often called him for advice and he's never turned me away. I'm praying for him and his health to return quickly.
