How might we design learning experiences that make failure feel like progress instead of defeat? In game-based environments, failure is often reframed as feedback—a chance to try again, improve, and move closer to mastery. Yet in many learning contexts, failure is still perceived as a setback or personal flaw. To support flow and resilience, instructional designers must create psychologically safe environments where failure is expected, constructive, and motivating. What mechanics, scaffolds, or narrative choices can we use to normalize iteration and make learners feel empowered to keep going?

In January of 2025, the Maine Chapter of Association for Talent Development welcomed several new Board Members. Meet our VP of Technology, Jennifer A. Blair! With a Master's in Education and a professional career in learning development design as an instructional designer, Jennifer is a fantastic addition to the ME-ATD team!

As VP of Technology for Maine ATD, Jen focus on making it easier for ME-ATD members to connect, learn, and grow through smart, user-friendly tech. Whether it’s managing our website, streamlining virtual events, or finding better ways to share resources, her goal is to ensure technology enhances everything we do. She want to make it simple for professionals across Maine to access great learning opportunities and build a strong, engaged community.

Looking ahead, Blair sees Maine ATD as a go-to hub for talent development—where professionals at any stage can connect, share ideas, and level up their skills.
