As part of Dr. Armstrong’s Lift Literacy Campaign, Readers on the Rise celebrates the joy and power of reading across our schools.

8 ORABSE retirees had the honor of visiting Woodlawn to read with 1st–5th grade students—and we were welcomed with such warmth and enthusiasm.

This time of year can feel busy, so this Read-In is meant to support and complement the amazing work already happening in classrooms—not add to it. Together, we’re building connections, inspiring minds, and grounding ourselves in the power of literacy.

Only 3 more days!

Join Angela Braxton-Johnson & Sunshine Dixon in The Art of Living, a creative and immersive workshop designed to explore the harmony between art and life. Through meditation, music, words, and watercolor, this fluid experience invites you to express, release, and reconnect—no artistic experience required.

Your presence will be honored, your individuality celebrated, and your expression welcomed. This is not about producing perfect artwork, but about using creativity as a pathway for processing, reflection, and self-discovery. Your perspective is your masterpiece, and your story deserves space.

Rooted in improvisation and authenticity, this workshop embraces the beauty of imperfection and the power of simply being yourself. All skill levels and backgrounds are valued in this inclusive space—there is room for you here.

🌟 ORABSE Spotlight 🌟

The Oregon Alliance of Black School Educators proudly celebrates board member Sade Rivers for receiving The Black Excellence Award from her former students at The Cottonwood School of Civics and Science 🖤✨

What makes this moment even more powerful? Sade created this award to uplift local Black leaders and inspire students—and this year, those same students honored her in a landslide vote.

From founding Night Light, a BIPOC student affinity space, to championing belonging and community, Sade’s impact runs deep. Her work reflects the heart of ORABSE’s mission: equity, excellence, and empowerment.

👏🏾 Congratulations, Sade! Your legacy continues to inspire the next generation.
