The Halander family has now welcomed an incredible 19 exchange students into their home over the years! This school year, they’re opening their doors to two students at once, Mia from Paraguay, their 18th student, and Vittoria from Italy, their 19th.

From handmade airport signs to Packer traditions and the excitement of welcoming two new daughters into the family, the Halander family is such a wonderful example of what happens when hosting becomes more than a program, it becomes part of your family’s story.

19 students. 19 lives welcomed. Countless memories and connections around the world. 💙

There’s a whole lot of LOVE in Virginia! ❤️

Our Virginia exchange students recently came together for their student orientation, but our local team made sure the day included more than the basics. They added a scavenger hunt around the city, giving students a chance to explore, laugh, work together, and start building friendships along the way.

And this photo? Matching ETC shirts, a giant LOVE sign, and a group of students beginning one unforgettable year together. It doesn’t get much better than that. 💙🌎

A huge thank you to our Managers and Local Coordinators who find creative ways to turn required program moments into memories our students will carry home with them.

Marcos had barely arrived from Spain when his 3-year-old host sister reached for his hand and apparently, that was it. Instant connection. 💞
Walking away from the airport together, hand in hand, with her little American flag waving beside them… this picture captures so much of what cultural exchange is really about. Before the adventures, the school days, and all the milestones ahead, a family is already beginning to form.

📚 First day of school ... exchange student edition! ✨

Carolina came all the way from Brazil to Arizona, and now she’s officially starting her sophomore year at an American high school! ❤️

The first day of school is one of those big exchange-year moments. New classes, new teachers, new friends, new traditions, and so many opportunities ahead. What feels unfamiliar today will soon become part of the story she’ll take home with her forever.

This is what exchange is all about: stepping outside your comfort zone, embracing something new, and discovering just how much you can grow in one incredible year.
