Over the last year, a task force commissioned by the SSO:USA the Research Committee conducted a multi-phase development process with input and refinement from SSO:USA membership. Following this development process, four distinct priorities were presented to Board and formally adopted in Spring 2026.

These four research priorities are mutually influencing and reflect member values and beliefs for best advancing the activities and mission of the Society.

Research priorities will be applied across the Society’s activities including the annual Research Conference abstract review criteria, conference themes, and presentation tracks, as well as review criteria for the student research grant, future SSO:USA funding mechanisms, and topical material for the Summer Series for Scholars.

Participants will have opportunities to apply these ideas to their own areas of scholarship, with attention to the audiences they must engage, including community members, clinicians, collaborators, reviewers, and funders. This session is intended for occupational science students and scholars seeking to move their work toward applied impact while preserving strong conceptual grounding in occupation.
