"I did not want to wait. I wanted to open a door." Home sharing is for the older homeowners who would rather act than be rescued. Vetted matches. Nonprofit platform. 80 percent of HomeShare Online matches are still stably sharing 6 months later. If the heaviness has been creeping up, the door does not have to stay closed.

While the policy work moves to its next phase, the case for home sharing has been made on a national stage. The EmPOWERED Segment hosted by Meg Ryan featured the Portland Home Sharing Pilot earlier this spring as a model other cities can study. The dominant aging-services experience in Oregon, and in most states, is application then queue. A homeowner who decides this season that she wants to share her home should not have to wait on a list to find a vetted housemate. Wednesday, June 10 at 10 a.m. on Zoom: the Oregon Department of Human Services holds the public hearing on the draft 2026-2030 State Plan on Aging. The Plan as drafted does not name home sharing. We are asking the Office to add a strategy that recognizes home sharing as one path for older Oregonians who wish to age in place. Fifteen minutes on Zoom is enough.
