Fighting hunger means nutrition education as well as reliable access to healthy foods. Familias en Acción offers workshops, field trips and classes thanks in part to a PCL hunger relief grant. Topics include gardening, cooking education for families of young children, food budgeting, social determinants of health and more. Families also receive referrals for food resources. Join us 5-8 p.m. Wednesday as the Community Council begins a new term and develops its 3-year workplan. You can also sign up to testify and help shape the workplan.

This public Community Council meeting will be held in-person at the Portland State Office Building (located in the Lloyd District) and virtually via Zoom.

Some programs support pregnant mothers even before they give birth. An early childhood program at Impact NW offers home and personal visits and parent-child group services for children prenatal to 3 years old. “I have two young children and a teenager, and being part of the program makes me feel accompanied and supported,” Maryuri says.

Weekly home visits, case management, parent education, life skills support, and child development and health screenings are all part of the Echo program from Janus Youth Programs. The program serves parents ages 22 and younger, where either the parent or the child is in foster care.

"It has given me support, helpful resources, and it is helping me become more confident as a parent,” participant TC says.
