Each summer area organizations provide free enhanced activities at Free Lunch + Play sites in the areas of literacy, arts + crafts, food insecurity, and recreation. 🥵Babies, children and pregnant people are especially vulnerable to extreme heat. Recognize the signs for heat illness and stay cool and safe! 💧🧊🏊‍♀️

📣 Extreme heat can affect anyone, but knowing who is most at risk — and how to spot the signs — is vital.

🧑‍🧒 Those at high risk include:
▪️Older adults, especially men over 50 who live alone
▪️People without access to air conditioning
▪️People engaging in strenuous or outdoor recreational activities (especially children on turf fields)
▪️Pregnant people
▪️People who work in hot indoor or outdoor environments
▪️People taking certain medications or who have consumed alcohol

⚠️ Watch for signs of heat illness including:
▪️Heavy sweating
▪️Extreme weakness
▪️Dizziness
▪️Nausea, vomiting
▪️Rapid heartbeat
▪️Shallow or rapid breathing

🛑 What to do:
▪️Remove excess clothing
▪️Rest in a cool area
▪️Take a cool shower, bath or sponge bath
▪️Drink plenty of fluids

Portland Children's Levy recently awarded $8 million in grants to support community-based organizations. A set of 12 new small grants totaling $2.6 million will provide after school academic support, early childhood visits, farm-based education and food, and a variety of mentoring activities. Another $5.2 million benefits 94 existing large grants. Learn more 👇

Don't forget to join us 2-5 p.m. this afternoon for the Portland City Council meeting. The council will consider approval of Allocation Committee funding decisions for a set of 12 small grants and an 8% increase to the three-year funding of current large grants for use in fiscal years 2027 and 2028.
