Demolition of the Centennial Mills building will start Monday, August 17. After the fire on August 2nd, the building was deemed too damaged to remain standing. Contractors plan to begin by using controlled explosions to take down the water tower on Monday afternoon.
The image above shows the radius that will be cleared before demolition.

Positive news and practical guidance: Preliminary testing after the Centennial Mills fire shows air quality is low-risk for the surrounding community. If you have ash or debris on your property, here's the safe way to clean it up as recommended by the city.

Don't sweep or vacuum—instead:
âś“ Mist debris lightly with water
âś“ Pick up with gloved hands and damp paper towel
âś“ Double-bag in plastic and dispose in trash
âś“ Wear gloves and an N95 if available
âś“ Wash hands, arms, face, and clothes

Some debris has tested positive for asbestos, but ongoing air monitoring suggests exposure risk remains low for our neighborhood. Still, caution with cleanup is smart.
