The Black Family Pledge Is About Accountability.
At a time when families are facing rising housing costs, economic uncertainty, food insecurity, and growing pressure on the systems meant to support them, we need more than promises. We need commitments.
The Ebony Collective Coalition’s Black Family Pledge asks candidates and elected leaders to make a simple but meaningful commitment:
Support policies that minimize systemic barriers for Black families.
Why does that matter right now?
Because policy decisions are not abstract. They determine whether families can remain housed, whether parents can find family-supporting jobs, whether children have access to food and opportunity, and whether communities have the resources necessary to move from simply surviving to building stability and generational legacy.
And while this pledge centers Black families, the work has broader impact. When we remove barriers for communities that have historically experienced some of the greatest systemic obstacles, we build public systems that are more accessible, responsive, and effective for everyone.
The pledge also represents something we believe deeply at the Ebony Collective Coalition: our communities deserve to know where candidates stand before Election Day and they deserve a way to hold leaders accountable after Election Day.
Signing the Black Family Pledge is not the end of the conversation.
It is the beginning of a relationship between community, candidates, and elected leaders built around measurable action.
In this political moment, we are asking leaders to move beyond saying they support Black families.
Put it in writing. Stand behind it. And work with community to make it real.
