PaWSAR has two teams in Western PA and Eastern PA. WEST TEAM service areas include Butler, Lawrence, Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Westmoreland, Mercer, Venango, Clarion, Armstrong and surrounding counties. EAST TEAM service areas include Lancaster, Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, Delaware, Philadelphia, Lebanon, Lehigh, York, Dauphin, Berks and surrounding counties.

Early morning K9 training before taking part in UMC's Pumpkin Patch festivities. We had a great time even if it was a little breezy.

If you haven't been to Bates Motel & Haunted Hayride this season, time is running out! A few members went last night for a meet and greet with the characters and a walk through the hayride. This allows us to introduce scary looking people and scenes to desensitize our canines allowing them to be comfortable in all scenarios. What great fun!

Today’s training began with a focus on improvised wilderness extraction and extrication techniques, exploring different methods for moving an injured subject when conventional resources may not be available. These skills help our members think on their feet and adapt to challenging situations, whether operating in a communications blackout area, moving a subject due to immediate scene hazards, or working when our RIT/Medical Team (State QRS Licensed) is not yet on scene or otherwise unavailable.

The day continued with K9 training, where team members developed scenarios and set up training problems tailored to each handler’s unique goals and objectives. This individualized approach helps ensure that both handlers and their K9 partners continue to develop the skills needed to meet the challenges they may encounter in the field.

Today was PA State Police Troop K's Sunny Day Camp. We are so happy to be a part of these events, interacting with all the families, and making the kids smile.

Time to put all our training together with a couple of mini mock searches. We were able to go through Hasty Phase, Pre-Search Check, Pre-Search Inspection, Flanker 101, Radio Communications, Last Known Point Protection and Approach, Patient Assessment, RIT Assist and Patient Extrication/Extraction. We conducted a trailing task, HRD task, and grid search based off the scenarios. Great training overall, even if we did get soaked to the bone.

Team Training covered Task Ex*****on Preparation. This included Pre Search Inspection, Pre Search Check, Flanker 101, Med/RIT Assist, and Drone Spotter, Observer/Remote Pilot Assist. These are all needed to ensure each team member can be an asset to a search task, no matter what is needed to locate, care for, or extract the subject, ensuring all phases of the search operation are successfully.

A full weekend for the team! We started with building a fire and doing some compass work plotting an object on a map using intersection. K9 training followed where everyone assisted with the training goals. Medical/RIT put together the equipment needed to meet the standards to become QRS licensed. Sunday had us taking part in another Brewscuits Customer Appreciation Day.

STII PTB: STATION 11.0 - FIRE BUILDING SURVIVAL SKILL
This station tests the candidate's ability to build a self-sustaining fire safely

Demonstrate the ability to build a sustainable fire using only personal field equipment and materials found in the field.
Objective:
Safely construct and maintain a small fire using the candidates' pack items, with supplemental fuel from the local environment if required.

Training began on the medical side with Assessing a Patient. We need to be prepared to evaluate the subject once found to render any immediate aid in preparation of getting them back safely. K9 training then commenced after going over each handler's training goals.

Another Sunny Day Camp in the books, and so far, the best weather for one! We had a great time meeting with these families and sharing what our team does when someone goes missing.
