🌳Happy National Trails Day! 🌳

Did you know the longest trail in the United States passes right through Moraine State Park? The North Country Trail traverses 4,800 miles from North Dakota to Vermont, and about 14 of those miles run along the western and northern reaches of the park. The NCT also directly connects Moraine with nearby McConnells Mill State Park as well as Jennings Environmental Education Center.

If you take the NCT across McDanels Road in the western side of the park, stop in and see us at the Owlet Gift Shop at Moraine! We’ll stock you up with snacks, drinks, outdoor gear, and souvenirs from your visit. Proceeds go back into the park to sustain its resources.

It’s World Environment Day, an international opportunity to listen to our planet and do our part to take care of its resources. Moraine State Park is a great example of environmental conservation and shows how a few motivated individuals can make a big difference through environmental stewardship.

A hundred years ago, the land that is now the park was cut clear of trees, covered with mines and wells, and scarred by extractive human activity. Today, the mines have been reclaimed, the wells have been capped, and thousands of acres of trees surround Lake Arthur. Every year, a million visitors come to the park to enjoy the peace they find here, and countless volunteers donate their time to sustain this special place.

Join the citizen science movement! This year, Moraine State Park is taking part in the PA state parks Bio Blitz competition. To contribute, simply upload pictures of the species you observe when you are out and about onto iNaturalist for the entire month of June!
