INDOT: Ind. 49 will be reduced to one lane in each direction beginning on Monday, April 5.

Ind. 49 will be reduced to one land in each direction, between Vale Park Road and Division Road, beginning on Monday, April 5, the Indiana Department of Transportation is announcing.

The lane closures will remain in effect through early October.

Crews will be working on several bridge construction projects, including bridge painting and bridge deck overlays. “Bridge painting is one of many preservation techniques utilized by INDOT to extend the life of a bridge,” INDOT said. “Prior to painting, beams and other components are sandblasted to remove existing rust and the new coat of paint acts as a sealant to protect from water, salt, and other chemicals that may cause corrosion.”

A bridge deck overlay, on the other hand, is another kind of protective treatment to extend the life of a bridge.

INDOT urges drivers to stay alert near work crews and follow traffic directions carefully. Drivers should allow extra time when traveling through a work zone, slow down, and drive distraction-free.
