Minds Matter connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. Our program offers a unique combination of mentoring support, group instruction, and social-emotional learning. We provide students with the resources and guidance needed to gain admission, enroll, and succee

d at rigorous four-year colleges. Support continues during college with internships, professional skills-building, and access to our alumni platform. We are dedicated to helping students unleash their talent and potential, nurturing them to become not just college graduates, but leaders who can help shine the light for future generations.

Every college pennant represents years of Saturday sessions, mentorship, goal-setting, and growth. College success isn't defined by a name on a pennant. It's about making informed choices, pursuing your goals, and having the support to navigate the path that's right for you.

Behind every pennant is a student who kept showing up, and a community that showed up alongside them.

The Minds Matter journey doesn’t end at graduation. Over the summer, alumni returned to help interview students for our incoming sophomore cohort.

It’s a full-circle moment: students once supported by this community are now welcoming the next generation into it which is powered by community. You grow, stay connected, and find your own way to give back. Interviews are wrapped, and we’re getting ready to welcome our newest sophomores in September! ☀️

This summer, Genesis participated virtually in a Girls Who Code program, building her skills and exploring her interests in technology in a way that worked for her.

Because opportunity doesn't have to look the same for every student. What matters is having the chance to explore, learn, build confidence, and discover where your interests might take you next.

Every pennant tells a story. Behind each college choice are years of Saturday mornings, challenging conversations, big goals, and people who believed in these students long before acceptance letters arrived.

Today, we're celebrating more members of the Minds Matter SoCal Class of 2026 as they prepare for their next chapter. While their destinations may be different, they share something in common: the courage to keep showing up and the support of a community that believed in what was possible. New experiences. New perspectives. Endless possibilities.

Last week, our students participated in the NBCU Media Fellows Program which is a three-day immersive experience designed to introduce them to careers across the media and entertainment industry. Our students were able to connect directly with NBCU professionals as well as participate in reviewing a case study and presenting it to the Casting team. We are truly building the future. One student reflects on the impact of this program,

“What was so impactful about this course was the ability to be able to talk to workers there, hear how they got there, and learn what challenges they faced.”

Experiences like these help students expand what's possible—not only by exposing them to new career opportunities, but by connecting them with professionals who are willing to invest in the next generation.
