REMINDER! FIBER ARTS CLUB INTEREST MEETING IS TOMORROW!

Do you enjoy crocheting, knitting, quilting, embroidery, cross-stitch, weaving, or other fiber arts? Or have you always wanted to learn something new?

We are exploring the possibility of starting a **Fiber Arts Club through the Roosevelt County Extension Association, and we would love for you to join us!

2026 NEW MEXICO 4-H ADULT LEADERS RETREAT — REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

DRIVEN TO LEAD: Fueling the Future of 4-H!

Calling all Roosevelt County 4-H volunteers and leaders! This is a great opportunity to learn new skills, connect with other 4-H volunteers from across New Mexico, and bring fresh ideas back to our county!

Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026
Location: NMSU Corbett Center | Las Cruces, NM
Registration Deadline: October 25, 2026

Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to attend hands-on workshops covering a variety of topics, including:

Starting and Building a New 4-H Club

Livestock 101 & Livestock Skill-a-thon

Record Books & 4-H Projects

Horse Bowl & Hippology

Cloverbud Activities

Volunteer Leadership & Youth Engagement

Leathercraft, Jewelry Making, STEM, and MORE!

There will also be opportunities for networking, guest speakers, and fun activities!

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE!

We encourage our Roosevelt County volunteers to take advantage of these opportunities!

Gerry Copeland Adult Leader Scholarship: One $20 scholarship is available per county.

First-Time Attendee Scholarships: Eight $20 scholarships are available for volunteers attending the retreat for the first time.

Wow what a trip! These kids competed at Horticulture Contest Nationals this past weekend and they sure represented New Mexico and Roosevelt County well! Madison, Emma, Tandi, and McKennon scored 7th in the nation, AND they also won 2nd place for their New Mexico State display and demonstration! It was an absolute honor to be part of these kids’ journey to nationals and see all of their hard work come to fruition. Congratulations!!!

Join us Monday, October 19, at 6:00 PM! We’ll discuss record books, enrollment for the upcoming 4-H year, and themes for the 2026 4-H Banquet.

Each club is required to have at least one representative attend to share important updates with their club members. We appreciate everyone’s help in keeping our 4-H members informed and involved! 💚

It’s October 1st, which means enrollment for the 2026–2027 Roosevelt County 4-H year is officially OPEN! Enrollment is open for

NEW members AND RETURNING members!
Whether you’re joining 4-H for the first time or coming back for another great year, we are excited to have you!

RETURNING 4-H MEMBERS
Already have a ZSuite account? You still need to re-enroll for the new 4-H year. Log in like normal and begin with Step 7 below. Please double-check that your address, grade, contact information, club, and projects are correct.
NEW TO 4-H?

Follow these steps to get started:
1. Click “Sign Up” on the ZSuite homepage and create your household account.
2. Complete the form using the parent/guardian as the Primary Account and create a 4-digit PIN.
3. Use an email address you will remember. This email will be used for all members in your household.
4. Click “Let’s Go” to access your dashboard.
5. Click the green “+ Household Member” button.
6. Add each member’s name, birthdate, and club.
7. Click “Enroll Member” and complete the address, emergency contact, and other information.
8. Continue to the Waiver Section.
9. Digitally sign all required waivers by typing your name.
10. Continue to the Club & Project Section and select your projects.
11. Click SUBMIT, and you’re done!

REMINDER: Returning members and volunteers must complete re-enrollment by January 2.

LAST DAY TO TURN IN PORK CHOP BREAKFAST ORDERS!

Today is the last day to turn in your Roosevelt County 4-H Pork Chop Breakfast tickets and group orders!

The Annual Pork Chop Breakfast will be held **Wednesday, August 19, from 6:00 AM–10:00 AM** at the Jake Lopez Building at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds.

Breakfast plates are $12 each and include:

* Pork Chop
* Biscuits & Gravy
* Eggs
* Coffee, Orange Juice, and Milk

**Group delivery orders are available for local businesses!**

This is Roosevelt County 4-H’s largest fundraiser of the year, helping support our members as they attend events like Youth Get Away, State 4-H Conference, and other educational and leadership opportunities.

Zucchini, Kitchen Skills & Teamwork!

Hi, it’s Michelle Howard, your Roosevelt County FCS Agent!
We had such a fun time last week working with our Novice/Jr./Sr. kids during our Zucchini Workshop!

There was a whole lot of learning going on in the kitchen, too!
The kids learned how to use a sifter, how to tell the difference between dry and liquid measuring cups, and why using the correct one matters when following a recipe. We also practiced the difference between a tablespoon (Tbsp.) and a teaspoon (tsp.) because we definitely don't want to switch those two! 😂

They practiced reading and following a recipe, measuring ingredients correctly, working safely in the kitchen, taking turns, helping one another, and cleaning up as they worked.

And probably one of my favorite lessons of the day was learning that teamwork really does make the dream work! When everyone has a job and works together, things go a whole lot smoother and it's a lot more fun!

Hands-on activities like this give our kids a chance to learn skills they can take home and use again and again. They aren't just learning how to make zucchini bread or another recipe; they're building confidence and life skills in the kitchen.

A big thank you to our kids for jumping in and giving everything a try and to our Extension Homemakers and volunteers who help make opportunities like this possible.

And judging by the concentration in these pictures, I would say these young cooks were taking their measuring duties pretty seriously!

Having an extra set of hands in the kitchen makes such a difference, especially when we have young cooks learning new skills. Roosevelt County 4-H Educational Exhibits & 4-H Open Projects

Roosevelt County Fair is almost here! Please make sure you have your 4-H Educational Exhibits and Open Projects completed and ready to enter.

ENTRY DATES & TIMES

Friday, August 14
8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.

Saturday, August 15
8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

All entries will be taken at the Roosevelt County Extension Office.

Before You Arrive:

Bring your project completed and ready for entry.
Complete any required project record sheets.
After check-in, leave your project at the Extension Office. Extension staff will transport projects to the fairgrounds for judging and display.

IMPORTANT EXCEPTION — Cooking, Baked Goods, Fresh Vegetables & Herbs

Entry forms for these projects must still be completed on Friday, August 14, or Saturday, August 15. However, please DO NOT bring the actual exhibit at that time.

The actual cooking, baked goods, fresh vegetable, and herb exhibits must be brought to the Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17 so they are fresh and ready for judging.
