Jim Carpenter is a guy who's been through multiple cancers and countless surgeries over the past 7 years. Through it all, he's been living his life to the fullest and fighting his way into remission. Currently, Jim is cancer free but still recovering from his last brain surgery from September 2011. This scholarship was started to help students from PHS who have been affected by cancer. Every famil
y who has a sick parent or sibling can always use extra money for college (books, tuition, food, etc). Having illness in in the family, especially during those teenage years, is not easy so this scholarship is here to help, even if it just a little bit. Requirements:
-Fill out a general scholarship application
-Applying Students must have a 2.5 or higher GPA & be a senior
-Essay Requirement: Write a 500-800 word essay on how he or she as been affected by cancer (they themselves have been diagnosed, a parent, a sibling, or a friend) and how they have overcome that in their life and how it has affected them.
-A thank you note and explanation of how the money was spent will be required of the winners in order to receive the check
Two scholarships will be given away at senior awards night on May 22nd, 2013 (The amount will be determined by donations but will be at least $500 a piece). These scholarships will be in the form of a check to the family to do whatever they need to in order to help the student have a smooth transition into college.
