Today was pass the gavel! Jose E. Santamaria was so enthusiastic to start the meeting that he chipped it hitting the bell...it's ok, Rotarian William Crown is an expert woodworker and will fix it right up.

New member Tiana Lyn Gee was an overachiever completing all of the tasks on her list to get her red ribbon removed-congratulations! Jericho Foundation and Portage Community Center both received their grant checks supporting amazing organizations, creating impact locally and abroad. Past President Randy Orwig joined us after having to take an in person break due to kicking cancers butt. He was given some very special family size boxes of Froot Loops to keep him on the path to remission.

We recognized retiring board members Karen Foster and Pat McGinnis for their many years of service and hard work. Our current leadership roster was sworn in starting with President Ginny Dell, then our board: President Elect Matt Copp, President Nominee Sarah Gerstner, Treasurer Roy Dangel, Treasurer in Training Assistant Darwin Scherba, Secretary Molly Chase-Paulsen, Directors: Steve Rodia , Dan Bunker , Brad DeBoer, Mary Lou Wright, Katelyn Huntington and Chad Schuring.

The meeting was packed with emotional highlights of exceeded goals, new goals to be met and of course the Ace of Spades drawing for $500! Congratulations to Dave Dell who better be taking his newly gavel holding wife out for their 40th wedding anniversary with that cash.

It was a fantastic day at the Rotary Club of Portage ! We are excited as we go into this new Rotary year of the big dogs and we are even more excited to have all of you along with us!

Did you know there are free dinosaurs in Kalamazoo?!? πŸ¦–πŸ¦• This morning Portage Rotarians were on the road with Southwest Michigan First Chamber for Rise&Thrive at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum.

Are you looking for something to do with kids this summer? We highly recommend checking out the hidden gem of the museum! There's everything from a planetarium to dinosaurs to bits of Kalamazoo history and the best part?!? IT'S FREE!

Wow, our meeting today was so jam packed that it's hard to even remember all of the highlights! Let's start with our special guests The City of Portage MI Council Member Jihan Young 's kids, Portage Public Schools incoming 6th grader L3 and incoming 2nd grader Amaya (accompanied by Polio Eradication pets Cupper and Briscoe). Ironically we also welcomed another Briscoe, new member transferring from Rotary Club of Kalamazoo, past Rotary District 6360 Michigan USA District Governor Rick Briscoe.

Then it was time for special recognitions: Steve Montanye received Paul Harris Fellow plus 2 and Bob Borsos was welcomed into the Polio Plus Society.

Our program was the Kalamazoo Growlers ! Wow, the Growlers are way more than just baseball, they are a community experience! (Which YOU can experience tomorrow night to benefit the Rota-Kiwan Picnic Pavillion).

You won't want to miss next week when we pass the gavel from current President Jose E. Santamaria to incoming President Elect Ginny Dell.

Our President Nominee Designate, Sarah has been working hard with Portage Public Schools and Portage Central High School to bring back Interact. Let me tell you, these emerging young leaders are not only back as a club but back with passion and service in their hearts!

As the last project of the school year, they chose to write notes to seniors. They recognize that social isolation is an epidemic in our aging population. If these notes don't warm your heart and bring a tear to your eye, I don't know what will. They chose locally and Rotary Club of Kalamazoo Rotarian owned Visiting Angels of Southwest Michigan to be the recipients of the notes. Here are just a few highlights. πŸ’›πŸ’™

Phew, we were a little worried when we didn't receive another demand yesterday but the ducks seem to have gotten in a row! Can you help us get our Sergeant At Arms bucket back before Wednesday?!? Donate to Rotary Club of Portage Charities and help support small grants for amazing programs like Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan and Portage Public Schools Band programs.

Oh no! It seems our captors are in cahoots and the bucket has changed hands! TGIF, maybe we can get to the bottom of the mystery and get our Sergeant At Arms bucket back with some Happy Friday Boks to support Rotary Club of Portage Charities?!?

We have our first ransom demand...the suspect is demanding barking bucks! πŸΎπŸ’²πŸ’΅

Did you know that our Sergeant At Arms money goes to Rotary Club of Portage Charities which sponsors many small grants?!? He heard about two of his favorites Kalamazoo Animal Rescue and Animal's Best Friend Fund.

Learn more about our impact here https://share.google/Jtnj9D5o1qKhS7DOr and don't forget to bring your barking bucks to the next meeting or donate online to bring the bucket home!

Today Portage Rotarians took the meeting on the road for a 5:01 and to celebrate Presidential Brewing Company owner Jake receiving an honorary Paul Harris. Jake not only hosts our 5:01s but also our biggest FUNdraiser of the year, the Presidential Open!

Amongst all the fun, it seems that our Sergeant At Arms bucket has been taken hostage...what Rotarian has some hostage bucks to free it before next week's meeting?!?
