Chiefs Tryouts!
Hello Portage families. As this season of baseball inches towards the end, we’d like to give everyone an opportunity to take their game to the next level! The Portage Chiefs 13u will be hosting tryouts for the 2027 season on the following dates! The growing Portage Chiefs travel baseball program is looking to continue its growth and expansion as it is looking to roster a 13u team next year. All interested baseball players who are the age 13 or under prior to April 30th of 2027, or who turns 14 before May 1 may still be allowed to play in 13U if they are still in the 7th grade (for the Spring season) and their birthdate falls between January 1 and April 30 are eligible and invited to try out. The team will provide continuous opportunity and training for both fundamental skills, advanced game play strategies, physical fitness, and mental awareness as part of a balanced approach to teamwork and growth of well rounded baseball players and young adults in preparation for the upcoming season and beyond. The intended coaching staff includes a multi-sport experienced coach of 7 years in Portage and other youth and travel baseball programs. Also, another coach that has been a part of the Portage baseball program plus other youth and travel baseball programs for over 15 years. We would love to see a big turnout so bring one, bring all! What a great weekend for our 9 and 13u Chiefs.
Both teams went 3-1 and earned 1 seeds in their brackets. Both teams got 2nd place, in two really good baseball games. The 9u lost a heartbreaker in extra innings, but played a great tournament the whole way!
The 13u team scored 51 runs and gave up 13 in 4 total games! Their bats were on fire but they came up short in the ship.
Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families for sacrificing their weekend to support, cheer, and compete! Good luck the rest of the way!

Congratulations to senior outfielder Hunter Cole on earning First Team All-DAC honors! Great accomplishment to be recognized as one of the best players in the best conference in the state! ⚾️

Congratulations!!! Future is bright in Portage!

REGION NEWS: Portage High School has named Jeff Smith as the school's newest Athletic Director.

Smith will make a return as the Athletic Director role at Portage, a position he held from 2007 to 2012. Over the course of 20 years, Smith coached four different sports programs at Portage. Smith, who is also a Portage grad, has over 35 years of experience as an educator, leader, and athletic administrator.

Smith will begin this summer following the retirement of Brett St. Germain.

Great job boys! Our 13U Chiefs are playing up in 14u this weekend. They recently got moved up to AAA, and because there was no AAA 13u teams where they are playing, they had to move up to 14u AA. Well these boys showed up this morning and got the W!! 14-4!!! Great win boys and keep the train rolling! Good luck the rest of the way!

What a great accomplishment for this group or 13u boys! They are getting moved up to AAA!! What differs our team from 90% of travel teams is our kids are all Portage kids that are going to the same school! A lot of travel teams are the best kids from all different cities and then they compete.
We are trying to build a program from the ground up of our own Portage kids to win championships in High School. These boys are beating really good teams and are starting to earn the respect of a lot of teams out there. Great job boys!! Keep it going.
