Last week, we took a field trip to Gibson Woods Nature Preserve to participate in their Wonders of the Wetlands workshop. Students dove into an exploration of wetland habitats, testing water quality and doing macroinvertebrate sampling. They learned about aquatic biodiversity, as well our connection to the Lake Michigan ecosystem. It was a gorgeous day to spend at the Preserve!

Field Trip Highlights!!

We ended April by going to Perkins' Good Earth Farm for a behind the scenes tour of a beautiful certified organic family farm to learn about sustainable farming.

We kicked off May by going to Five Medals, where students experienced life from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Presentations were interactive, informative, entertaining, and educational.

This past week, we headed to the Crown Point Fire Station for a tour and to learn about the trucks and firefighters!

πŸ• Spring 2026, Week 12 🍨
.. and just like that, the semester is over! Quite honestly, it was the best semester! The amazing kids, the dedicated parents, the fun, the well-planned classes, the engaging projects, the friendships, the field trips, the parties... just everything came together to create an atmosphere of enjoyment, peace, calm, and community. Having a co-op run smoothly is no easy feat. It requires true participation from every parent. And having such an hardworking crew has made the semester feel easy.

We ended this semester with finishing projects, reviewing concepts, celebrating birthdays, a pizza lunch, popsicles, and a parent v kids dodgeball game! It was ruthless, hilarious, and the gloves (and some t-shirts) came off... we have some competitive kids (and parents!)

Summer is coming and we have tons of plans ahead!

🌱 Week 11, Spring 2026 🌱

What a beautiful day we had at co-op! Full hearts, fresh air, and friends created an amazing day of learning in the classroom and beyond. We believe in and trust our parent-teachers to plan and execute classes for our kids that are engaging, interesting, and fun. The kids enjoy going to class, completing projects, and spending time socializing with friends. We cannot believe that we have ONE week left. We wrapped up today with a mini plant workshop where each kid left with a few planted herbs to start their own herb garden.

If you are looking for an organized, active, and community-based co-op for the Fall, we have openings at our associate membership where you can attend field trips and events. We are at capacity for our full membership for Fall, but we can place you on a waitlist. Joining our associate membership gives you first access to available spots for full membership in the future.

🌞 Week 10, Spring 2026 🌞

How is it possible that we only have 2 weeks left of the semester?! Time surely flies when we are having fun being with friends, learning so many things! This week was no different. The kids dove head first into their classes, working hard but playing even harder with lots of red cheeks from running around outside. We had a fire pit in Survival class and projects in Mixed Media, Mini Design, and Biomes. We had all hands on deck to make graham crackers and pretzels in the Cooking classes. We had dancing and instruments in preK, playground time in preschool, and sack races in Gym class. So much was happening and yet the day just flows smoothly! Our community just steps up and steps in wherever and whenever necessary. Everyone is just the best ❀️

Yesterday, we returned to Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve in Beecher, IL for one of our favorite field trips! We got a bit rained on as we started, so we all bundled up as we headed our for our first session. The day slowly got warmer as we broke for lunch, followed by our second session. The kids learned all about pollinators as well as different animal habitats. They participated in hands-on activities, played games, solved mysteries, and explored different areas of the Preserve. It is honestly one of the best days of the year for us... the huge hill is the highlight! This is the perfect place with the best nature field trips - knowledgeable guides, engaging topics and activities, and acres of land to wander and explore!

πŸ₯ͺ Week 9, Spring 2026 🎨

How did this happen?! We are 75% of the way through the semester!! Only 3 weeks left until summer break! Today, we invited all of our parents and a few grandparents to our parent picnic to eat lunch with the kids, followed by a mini art show.

Of course, we had a great morning of classes - lots of learning and laughter. We have such an amazing group of kids who really put others before themselves in many instances, showing each other kindness, consideration, and respect. Every week, one student in each morning meeting group is designated Star Student where they can share about themselves and bring in a favorite object. It gives them simple public speaking practice, a platform for the others to learn about their friends, and the opportunity to engage in basic Q&A. It is a fun little tradition that starts our mornings off just right!

Classes went off without a hitch. Lots of movement, games, outside time, projects, experiments, art, and books. We are starting to wrap up on many things to finish out the semester strong.

🌧 Week 8, Spring 2026 🌧

We were not expecting rain until the evening, but the rainy morning led to some fun observations and welcome coolness even if we did have to miss out on outside recess this week. The kids are well established in their routines of classes, recess, snack, more classes, lunch, and lots of time to socialize with their friends and enjoy each other's company while still learning so much in all their classes.

We baked and crafted and read books; we nestled in for educational videos and got our hands dirty; we dug into sensory bins and painted starry skies. It was another beautiful day together, even if there was some rumbling scary thunder.
