Disabled Vets Fish Outing This page is dedicated to the Disabled Vets Fish Outing in Port Washington, WI. This is a day to thank our vets who have sacrificed so much for us.

Tom McQuaid, Lou Krecklow, Wayne Horman and many others started this event by taking 2 disabled vets in wheelchairs out on charter fishing boats. This has grown into a event that is in its 44th year this year. It has grown into about 50 or more boats taking out 100+ veterans. Some wheelchair bound and some ambulatory, out on fishing charter boats to enjoy the day of fishing. There is an award ceremony for the biggest fish caught in each category, a fish boil and a cook out, and always a veteran band playing for entertainment. For some of the vets; this is the only time they get to get out of the VA Hospital all year. To see the smile on their face makes it all worth it!

Todd from JX Enterprises in Hartland made a donation to the Outing.

This cause here is incredibly near and dear to our hearts.
This past Wednesday, the Patriot Riders of America WI chapter 1 had the utmost honor of volunteering at the 53rd Annual Disabled Vets Fish Outing in Port Washington. From setup and serving food to helping Veterans safely onto and off of boats, cleaning fish, tearing down, or just sharing a good conversation with a smile—everyone jumped in wherever they were needed to make the day a massive success.
For the past few years, more than 15 of our members have devoted their time to this amazing event, with most taking a day of vacation from work just to be there. So, when the weather forecast looked rough, not a single member hesitated or questioned if we were still going to participate. We simply geared up and showed up, ready for whatever the day threw at us.
Did we get wet? Absolutely! Did it matter? Not one bit. We didn't let that stop us—and neither did our Veterans. They were fired up and ready to get out on the water no matter what Mother Nature had planned. Our mission was simple: to make sure our heroes were safe, had an incredible time, and created memories that would last a lifetime.
In all, 80 Veterans from the Milwaukee VA Medical Center boarded more than 30 charter boats in search of the day's big catch. Watching them return to the docks with huge smiles, great stories, and fish in hand was a reminder of why this event means so much to all of us. Truly Heartwarming.
Afterwards, the day wrapped up at the Legion with an amazing meal, plenty of laughter, stories about "the one that almost got away," and awards recognizing the day's catches. It was the perfect ending to an incredible day.
We, The Patriot Riders, are so incredibly blessed to have such compassionate and selfless members who always answer the call without hesitation when it comes to our Hero's. Your dedication makes us proud every single day.
A massive heartfelt thank you goes out to the amazing team of organizers at the Disabled Vets Fish Outing, the Port Washington Marina, all the charter boat captains, the kids from the Football and Wrestling teams, and all the other volunteers both near and far who made this day possible.
Most importantly, thank you to the Veterans who allowed us to spend the day alongside you. Serving those who have served our country is one of the greatest privileges we could ever ask for.
We can't wait to do it all again next year. 🎣❤️

Had the honor of taking Navy veteran Steve out for the 53rd annual disabled vets outing. The weather was lousy but it didn't dampen the spirits of all involved with this awesome event. Thanks to all the helpers and captains for taking part in this. 😁👍

The Disabled Vets Fish Outing is Looking for Assistance

The 53rd Annual Disabled Vets Fish Outing will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. We are making arrangements to take approximately 100 disabled Veterans from the VA hospital and surrounding area for a ½ day of fishing followed by a cookout and fish boil. The planning committee is once again asking for help. There is a need for boats. The time involved in fishing is from approximately 7:30 am until noon. If you have a boat and would like to participate that day, please call Judy Klumb at 262-339-6006 (cell). We have a need for homemade cookies and bars. We also need some sugar free cookies and bars. Desserts should be in disposable containers and dropped off at the Legion in Port Washington between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Tuesday, June 23rd. Volunteers are also needed to help load and unload the Vets on the boats, cleaning fish, set up and clean up at the Legion and food prep.
