Legislative leadership and the Governor are closing ranks around a proposal to drastically weaken New York's climate law. The proposal amounts to a sweeping rollback of a law crafted over two decades by communities across the state, many of whom are at the front lines of the climate and environmental justice crisis.

In 2019, lawmakers passed the climate law, which set powerful goals for lowering the state’s greenhouse gas emissions and enacting strong protections for environmental justice communities, which are largely Black and Brown neighborhoods that have long faced environmental racism, forcing the people there to endure a disproportionate burden from environmental hazards like air pollution and extreme heat. Rolling back the climate law will exacerbate this harm.

That is why, as negotiations come to a head, legislative leadership in the State Senate and Assembly must hear from us to demand that environmental justice community protections are upheld in the final budget.

The Governor's proposed changes to NY's climate law (CLCPA) amount to a sweeping rollback of a law crafted over two decades by communities across the state, many of whom are at the front lines of the climate and environmental justice crisis.

Celebrate a Plastic-Free Earth Day!

TTPW is proud to partner with the PW school district and Aramark to bring students a Plastic-Free Lunch! On Wednesday, April 22nd, we'll celebrate Plastic-Free Lunch Day USA — an initiative made possible by years of dedicated effort from Transition Town student activists at Schreiber and Weber.

School cafeterias across the district will go plastic-free as a meaningful step toward reducing plastic in our lunch programs on an ongoing basis. If your child brings lunch from home, please have them pack a completely plastic-free lunch.

‼️Call to Action‼️

Negotiations over the future of New York's Climate Law are happening right now at the state legislature. This weekend matters. We need you to demand that legislative leaders hold the line.

* CALL SENATE & ASSEMBLY
(***Call Script Below)
Phone Numbers:
* Speaker Heastie: 518-455-3791
* Majority Leader Stewart Cousins: 518-455-2585
* AM Peoples-Stokes: 518-455-5005
* Sen Gianaris: 518-455-5005
* AM Ramos: 518-455-5185

* EMAIL SENATE & ASSEMBLY LEADERS

* CALL THE GOVERNOR
https://act.nyrenews.org/call-governor-hochul-dont-destroy-nys-climate-law

The Governor is actively working to gut the law, using scare tactics about rising energy bills to build public support for weakening it. But the opposite is true: abandoning the Climate Law means dirtier air, a more dangerous climate, and a costlier future — higher utility bills, more medical expenses, more climate disasters to recover from, and more dependence on the fossil fuel economy that's driving all of it.

This is the moment. Take action before the weekend is over.

***CALL SCRIPT:
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m calling to urge __________ to advance — not retreat — on NY's climate law. Expensive gas, aging gas infrastructure, and utility greed are raising our utility bills, not the climate law. Hospitalizations, asthma rates, and deaths will increase statewide if the Climate Law is rolled back. Do not destroy our climate law and give handouts to the fossil fuel billionaires destroying our planet and our future. Uphold the climate law!

Amid an escalating global climate emergency, as the Trump government destroys federal climate protections, New York should be stepping up to lead the nation. Instead, Governor Hochul is attempting to roll back key parts of New York’s climate law with the help of the State Legislature.

This nature walk on Sunday April 19th will be a lovely and special one. This parkland is at-risk, and taking some time to explore the area and get educated about its importance to the community will make for a meaningful and wonderful Sunday. 💚

Governor Hochul continues to prioritize big corporations and the status quo over communities. As corporate polluters continue to pump pollution into our air and water, billionaires profit off our labor and lives, and masked fascist forces kidnap our immigrant neighbors, New Yorkers are standing together to say we have had enough.

Please join us for this important presentation about an undeveloped woodland area at risk. This area is part of the Manhasset Bay watershed and could have impacts on our Port Washington waterways, and the underhanded way this development is occurring could set a dangerous precedent for all remaining Long Island wilderness and wooded areas. Arm yourself with the facts, and join the movement to protect our precious dwindling natural spaces! 💚💪🏻
