Thank You Port Washington! What began as a three-year dream to bring nine murals to our city grew into something even more meaningful. Together we created 13 works of art that will live in our community for generations.

Paint on Port was never just about paint on walls. It was about connection, creativity and pride in the place we call home. Through three community murals and ten works by artists from near and far, we’ve added vibrancy, beauty and stories that reflect the history and spirit of Port Washington.

This wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated committee, amazing artists, volunteers, generous donors, supportive businesses, partner organizations and most importantly you, our community. Thank you for embracing this journey with open minds and open hearts, for showing curiosity and for celebrating what public art can bring to a small town with a big spirit.

Though the program has come to an end, the murals remain, a lasting reminder of what we can achieve when we come together. May they inspire more public art, joy, reflection and community pride for years to come.

The story doesn’t end here. Port Washington’s art movement is just beginning. As new initiatives take shape, from murals to sculptures and beyond, we look forward to seeing creativity continue to bloom.

Last call for adding your family name to a Leaf on the 2025 Community Mural. Final day to purchase is Friday 8/22. Be a part of something big and get your leaf today! The mural will be installed on the east wall of Chocolate Chisel in the coming weeks.

On this week's cover: Artist John Kowalczyk posed next to the mural he completed last week on the risers of the steps leading from Port Washington’s Harbor Walk to Wisconsin Street that pays homage to the city’s commercial fishing past by depicting the Ewig Bros. and Smith Bros. fish shanties as well as the iconic fisherman with a sturgeon slung over his shoulder, which still stands atop the former Smith Bros. building, now Duluth Trading Co. Fittingly, the mural is along the harbor’s westslip, which was the home of Port’s commercial fishing fleet. Photo by Wendy Braam
