A boat conceived during the Great Depression is still creating connections nearly one hundred years later. She has passed through different hands, weathered changing times, and yet continues to bring people together.

Built in 1930, Comrade was commissioned by Herbert William Davis, Jr. for himself and his two sons. What makes that story even more remarkable is that he continued with his plans despite the stock market crash of 1929 and the uncertainty that followed. At a time when many dreams were being put on hold, he chose to build something for his family and for the future.

"Every year, I come across hundreds of boats, books, and stories that could be part of the Wooden Boat Festival. All are interesting. Some are inspiring. And then every once in a while, something lands in my inbox that really fires me up. At first, it was the boat that caught my attention. Julia Jones sails Peter Duck, a 1946 wooden ketch built for Arthur Ransome, author of the beloved childrenโ€™s books Swallows and Amazons. Named after one of Ransomeโ€™s most memorable characters, Peter Duck is a floating piece of literary and maritime history." Keep reading โฌ‡๏ธ

Few people have inspired more sailors to dream boldly, live simply, and head out to sea than Lin Pardey. For decades, Lin and her late husband Larry Pardey helped shape modern cruising culture through their now legendary philosophy: โ€œGo small, go simple, go now.โ€ We're excited to have Lin join us in Port Townsend for several presentations and conversations throughout Festival weekend, sharing stories, hard-earned wisdom, and reflections from a lifetime under sail. Stay tuned for presentation details!

We are SO excited to welcome back the beloved Carousel of the Sea to the Wooden Boat Festival this year! Originally designed and carved by carousel maker and boatbuilder William Dentzel, the carousel debuted at Festival in 1994 and quickly became a fan favorite.

Reminder: kids 12 and under get in FREE with a ticket-paying adult, so bring the whole crew and make some memories.
