What an amazing experience it was to gather at City Hall this past Monday. The excitement was palpable as families waited together outside, eager for the doors to open. When they finally did, everyone poured in cheering and smiling - such a special moment to be a part of!
It’s not every day you get to accompany your kindergartener or 1st grader to a City Hall meeting and watch them be recognized by the mayor for the work they’ve done in their community.
We feel incredibly proud to be part of a town that values collaboration, compassion, and community care. In a place made up of many different economic backgrounds, and during a time when so many families are navigating uncertainty, these students have shown what it means to come together and expand a network of pantries that will provide equitable access to food for everyone- for our neighbors, by our neighbors.
A heartfelt thank you to Mayor Amy Howard for recognizing this project and helping make this moment so memorable for these kids. This was truly a core memory for both big and small people alike- a moment that celebrated the value of ideas, teamwork, and love for community.

We had an incredible time with Jefferson Transit! Students took the Little Food Pantry project to the Jefferson Transit Headquarters, where they collaborated with the team and shared their process of finding routes, planning trips, and navigating all of the installed food pantries in town through our very own transit center.
Students had a truly special experience in the Board Room, working alongside staff to create a new community map connecting all of the pantries to local bus routes. Coming soon: a map from Jefferson Transit designed to help further connect community members with food resources through our incredible — and free! — transportation system.
Over the past six months, students have gained an incredible amount of knowledge and practical skills while connecting with community members, actively planning trips, and riding buses all over Port Townsend. During this special visit, students also toured the facilities, met the amazing staff members (including the four-legged ones!), and got a behind-the-scenes look at everything it takes to keep the system running smoothly.
We are so grateful to Jefferson Transit for everything they bring to the community. We’ll see you on the bus!

And there we have it- our final pantry installation on our very own campus!
This beautiful pantry was built by local builder and woodworker Mateo Marquez, the behind-the-scenes force who created the kits, installed each pantry, and helped make sure the construction aspect of this project ran smoothly. We are so grateful for his craftsmanship, dedication, and support throughout this journey.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible. And party hats off to this amazing group of Kindergarten and 1st grade students who have spent the last six months putting these 11 pantries on the map!

We are proud to support equitable access to food for all community members and to help bridge resources and neighbors. Although the students have officially finished installing the pantries, their work is far from over. They’ll continue checking in on the pantries during their bus journeys and helping keep them stocked for the community.
We invite everyone to be part of this ongoing effort — donate when you can, keep an eye on the pantries, and help us maintain these valuable community resources. Together, we can continue supporting our neighbors and fighting food insecurity one pantry at a time.
