Our ED, Cat McCluskey, visited Blue Hill at Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture this week to give a talk during the staff meal on the geologic time scale of seed and how the consolidation of genetic diversity into the hands of a few seed companies directly relates to patent production. We also got a tour from Evan of some of the More Bang for Your Buckwheat trials. Thanks for a wonderful visit, Blue Hill team!

Last month, we joined Oregon State University and Oregon Organic Coalition for an Organic Seed Production Field Day at Summertime Seed Co. The fields were abundant with vegetables, flowers, and other seed crops! There were great discussions on seed production and policy, alongside thorough demonstrations of harvesting, threshing, and seed cleaning.

Tomato season is upon us! Tomatoes have been part of Organic Seed Alliance's breeding work for years, from the Tomato Organic Management and Improvement (TOMI) project to ongoing efforts to develop varieties suited to organic growing conditions. That work continues today through OSPREY, our Organic Seed Production Research on Economics and Yield project, which includes tomatoes in its multi-location trials working to build reliable seed yield data for the organic seed sector.

Find us at Culinary Breeding Network’s Tomato Fest on Sept 12 in Portland, OR. And check out our publications on our website for tomato-specific resources.
