Hello Friends!

Olympic Angels has created Pages of Perspective, a community-wide reading initiative designed to spark conversation, deepen understanding, and increase awareness about the lasting impact of foster care. The first selection is 'Wards of the State: The Long Shadow of American Foster Care' by Claudia Rowe (finalist for the National Book Award).

"By the time Maryanne was eighteen years old, she was on trial for murder. In and out of foster homes since the fourth grade, she had been trafficked and assaulted, and as a runaway on the streets, she finally pointed a gun at a man and pulled the trigger. She fled, but with no family and few real friends, it didn't take long for the police to catch up with her.
In court, Maryanne's defense blamed the foster care system itself. While the state of Washington brushed off the argument, journalist Claudia Rowe decided to look closer."

You can visit us at PBN and get pick up a copy of 'Wards of the State'*, read it, and pass it along to another member of our community. We are one of several locations you can pick up a copy.

On August 8, 2026, the organizers of the initiative, Olympic Angels, will host a special author talk and community discussion panel in Sequim.
Author Claudia Rowe, alongside local voices with lived and professional experience in foster care, will share stories, insights, and perspectives on the impact of foster care in our community.

Who are Olympic Angels? They mobilize community members to support one of our most vulnerable populations – children experiencing foster care. Through their Love Box and Dare to Dream programs, approximately 160 volunteers support 25 families and 75 children and youth on the Olympic Peninsula.

What do trauma, homelessness, addiction, isolation & uncertainty have in common? Foster care.

Today we are launching our community read thanks to partners across the peninsula- and now 📚 FREE copies of Wards of the State are now available across Clallam & Jefferson Counties.

This isn’t just a book. It’s an opportunity to better understand the realities of foster care and the stories behind the statistics.

Pick up a copy. Read it. Share it. Start a conversation.

Then join us on August 8 for a community event featuring author Claudia Rowe and individuals with lived foster care experience as they share stories of challenge, resilience, and hope.

Because understanding changes communities.

💙🤝 COMFORT THAT CARES – AIR FLO HEATING & OLYMPIC ANGELS FUNDRAISER 🤝💙

We're officially one week into our Comfort That Cares fundraiser, and there's still plenty of time to make a difference!

Throughout the month of June, Air Flo Heating is partnering with Olympic Angels to support children and families in foster and kinship care throughout Clallam and East Jefferson Counties.

Olympic Angels provides meaningful connections, mentorship opportunities, and ongoing support through programs like Love Box, helping ensure that foster youth and caregivers know they are not alone.

💙 Air Flo Heating will match donations up to $250 through June 30th, doubling the impact of every dollar donated!

As a family-owned company that has proudly served the Olympic Peninsula for more than 50 years, we're honored to support an organization that is making such a positive impact in our local communities.

Every donation helps provide encouragement, connection, and support to children and families who need it most.

⏰ Fundraiser Ends June 30, 2026

✨ Meet Shelley ✨

If you’ve ever wondered who keeps Olympic Angels running smoothly behind the scenes, meet Shelley!

As our Operations Coordinator, Shelley is the person making sure the details are handled - from accounting and payroll to logistics, problem-solving, and everything in between. Her ability to bring order to complexity helps ensure our team can stay focused on supporting children, youth, and families impacted by foster care.

Shelley describes herself as an alchemist, problem solver, comic relief, cheerleader, and nurturer - and honestly, that sums her up pretty well. She brings decades of experience in leadership, human resources, business development, and operations, paired with a deep belief in community, compassion, and human connection.

She loves uncontrollable laughter, ocean air, forest sunshine, short-legged furry creatures, and meals cooked with love. She dislikes bananas (strongly 😄), selective integrity, and a lack of compassion.

At the heart of everything Shelley does is family, relationships, and creating spaces where people feel they belong. We are incredibly grateful for the care, wisdom, and steady support she brings to Olympic Angels every day.

💙 Help us thank Shelley for all she does!

A huge thank you to our local Port Townsend Girl Scouts for generously donating SO many cookies to Olympic Angels! 🍪🤍

These sweet treats have already helped make one event extra special - and we still have more to share for another exciting event. 🫶🏻

One of the beautiful things about community support is that it doesn’t always have to look like writing a check or volunteering hours every month. In-kind donations are such a meaningful way to step into the work of Olympic Angels and help create moments of comfort, joy and connection for others.

Whether it’s snacks for events, supplies, gift cards, activities or other needed items -every contribution helps us continue showing up for local families in tangible ways. 🫶🏻

Thank you for being part of the village that makes this work possible. ✨
