Tamaki Update - We're at a loss of words at this point.. the coordination is about 90% gone, she curves her body almost completely, front legs both splay to the left of her body, her left back leg is twisted upwards and her right leg stretches out completely, unable to be held in the right position.

Her head turns to the right side of her body, weight loss is continuing, she has an incisor malocclusion but teeth aren't overgrown, luckily.. There is discharge from her left eye, some of it we can no longer clean without having to soak it up which will stress her tremendously..

She's confined to this blanket bed of hers as she cannot hold herself up. She attempts to push herself out of it, wears herself out in the process. So we take her out, changing her pad and hold her up.

Tamaki takes about 20ml of water via syringe every morning and evening, sometimes a bit less. Pellets are offered but she has started to decline them. Greens are offered and she has a hard time chewing. We offer a freeze dried banana treat (which she LOVES), some days she'll accept others she won't bother..
She also gets antimicrobial opthalmic gel in both eyes morning and night along with pain meds daily.

But through it all, she always finds the time to lick my hand..

Unfortunately, as our hearts are breaking, she's not ok, she's not thriving, she's merely existing.. We have to make the hardest decision in rescue/sanctuary care and that's to help her cross the rainbow bridge.. this will occur Monday, unless she passes naturally.

Keep our sweet girl in your prayers, we don't have much longer with her πŸ’”

A huge thank you to our amazing supporters! πŸ’œ

Today we received a donation of apple sticks for our rescue animals. These make wonderful enrichment items for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and other small animals who love to chew and explore.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us provide enrichment, comfort, and quality care to the animals in our sanctuary.

Thank you for helping us make a difference, one happy nibble at a time. 🐰🌿

Our crested geckos, Derpy and Banana, are up for adoption.
We put together a new terrarium for them, everything will be included in the adoption fee.

Both tanks are the same size, 18x18x24.

Geckos are NOT to be kept together in one home, they're to remain separate.

Please message us if interested!

Derpy is an adult, Bananas is a juvenile.

Update on Tamaki..
Things took a turn for the worse, unfortunately.
What we thought would start off as an amazing morning with her eating critical care and actually enjoying it, turned into her no longer being able to sit up and falls to the side after she was cleaned up.

Originally we didn't want to keep picking her up due to her condition, but even with constant cleaning up of her home, she herself needed to be wiped regularly.

At some point during her cleaning she must have pulled or twisted something, we held her the same way we have been the past few days of cleaning her.

She is now propped up with blankets because once she falls over, she cannot go back and will lay on her side until we help her back up, only to fall over once more. This stresses her out to the max.

We have set up a camera so we can watch her throughout the day (and night, yes middle of the night too) and get to her quickly if she needed us. We believe her time may be coming and we honestly do not want to make that call..

Unfortunately, this is no way of living. This isn't a life.. every week that passes her condition gets worse despite what we try and do.

We've received a good bunch of puppy pads and we're so grateful for them all, we have additional seniors who do not use a litter box and they're very much needed to keep our critters dry.

Every day, multiple times a day actually, we stay next to Tamaki, offer water, readjust her blankets and tell her we love her.
-My heart is breaking for this little girl, humans failed her and I'm frantically trying to give her everything and ensuring she isn't suffering, but she is..

Keep Tamaki in your prayers, hug and kiss your fluffy critters a little extra and remember that while our time with them is short, they will always have a piece of our heart.

We'll do our best to keep everyone posted..

Again, thank you all for the support.

On another note:

This has opened our eyes and we further understand that we're not like other rescues, we no longer take the bunnies and guinea pigs who are adoptable.
We take the injured ones.. the ones who are on their last few weeks of life.. the neglected ones.. the ones who weren't fed and forgotten about..the ones who's human just couldn't do it anymore.

Our name will eventually be changing and our rescue as a whole will also be going through some changes..

We can use everyone's help to spread the word so that we CAN adopt the bunnies and piggies we currently have. We only adopt out to serious families without young children. If you can open your home to a bunny, a guniea pig or 2, maybe even sugar gliders (they come with their own cage and food), please let us know.

We do have some x-pens for those wanting to adopt a bunny or a bonded pair from us. They'll come with their supplies (litter box, water and food bowl or bottle, a weeks worth of food and any beds or blankets they had). Same goes for the guniea pigs.

Tamaki Update -
Last night we decided to check her, we always give our buns time to adjust, especially if they're of special needs. What we found wasn't ok, it was heartbreaking, upsetting and I'd be lying if I say I didn't cry over it all..

As most of you know, Tamaki hasn't been eating well.. we've tried different pellets, mush food and everything in between. What we did find that she ate was lettuce and tiny hay balls. So we'd sprinkle the lettuce with critical care for the fiber and offer the tiny hay balls. We also included some bene-bac..

Unfortunately this isn't enough. We're now moving on to Sherwood Free Feed and trying out different types of hay that we haven't yet tried.

But what we found on her was just.. 😒
While we know there are worse cases, we just don't understand why she didn't get help sooner. Why allow her to reach this point before finding her help.

She has open green and white sores, hair loss, urine burn, crazy hard mats with f***l matter stuck together.. she has less use of one of her back feet, it just slides forward now, she can't stand on it anymore. Her other leg that just looks twisted is no regular splay.. she was sliding/hoping on her knee for some time which caused hair loss and sores. On top of it all, she has discharge from her eyes that we're also treating.

We pass zero judgement onto anyone, but we firmly believe Tamaki should have been surrendered to a rescue or sanctuary a long time ago.

We may have to make the decision to eventually help her cross the rainbow bridge but first we must give her this fighting chance. To heal, to know love and warmth, to live.

We gave antibiotics immediately and of course pain meds. She was wiped down, some mats were carefully removed as they were on the skin itself.
We applied a special all natural cream I make at home (safe if licked) to help heal her sores from the outside and offer some skin protection from her crawling around. Hopefully having something to heal the sores from the inside and outside will help her feel better and possibly begin to eat.

We've doubled up her blankets in her enclosure, she'll receive a warm soak today to remove the hard mats I couldn't cut out and we'll continue out treatments. She'll need to be wiped down nightly to avoid buildup.

If we can get help with p*e pads from our supporters, that'd be amazing. I'll post the size we need, this will help absorb her urine quickly and keep her home drier. We are going through them rather fast. (Link will be in comments)

Pray for our Tamaki to pull through, she's losing weight and ever so slowly, giving up. Being 10 yrs old and in this condition isn't easy nor promising but we intend to give it our all.

We are also raising funds for her continuing care if anyone would like to help with donations.

Floppy Ear Rescue started as a rescue, our goal was to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home.. this June will be 6 years that we've been open and we're finding ourselves turning into a hospice for animals 😞

This is where your donations go.

These cage supplies will be split amongst the finches, chinchillas and sugar gliders.

We have 2 finches, 5 chinchillas and 3 sugar gliders.

If anyone would like to send them any additional stimulating toys/climbing wood such as these, we'd be happy to accept them!

Rotating (changing out) the climbs and toys keeps them all entertained, stimulated and happy!

Hello friends!

Our sanctuary numbers are growing and we can really use the help of monthly donations. A splayed leg bunny, a spicy chinchilla or senior guniea pigs simply cannot be taken to a shelter or a humane society, unfortunately they aren't adoptable. To say that our entire home has turned into a sanctuary, is an understatement.

We often turn away the surrenderers that ARE easily adoptable and purposely take the unwell and unapproachable critters, why? Because they are the ones that are overlooked and have a higher risk of getting euthanized. Someone MUST care about them, love them as they are, let them be, simply let them exist as they prefer.

We've set up a monthly, quarterly and yearly donation options in hopes to continue to raise funds to continue to do this for the unwanted.

Please, share this far and wide so that we can reach more donors that could help us carry on our mission.

We got a pleasant surprise this morning at our front door, blankets! 😍

Our hearts are grateful to the thoughtful individual who sent/brought these to us. Something about blankets that give us a warm cozy feeling, especially since we rely heavily on blankets with our critters of different ages and health conditions.
Thank you for thinking of us πŸ™πŸ½

We hope to obtain a washer and dryer in the future to be able to wash and dry the blankets weekly/as needed.

We cannot mix them in our own family's washer/dryer due to severe allergies (yes, we try to remove as much hay and fur and take all of the medications possible to ease the allergies, unfortunately, it isn't enough - how do I run a rescue even though I have these severe allergies? With masks and gloves 😁, we don't give up on them).

We're also in the market for an air purifier, any recommendations would be appreciated πŸ’—

Happy Friday and have an amazing Mother's Day weekend πŸ€—
