American Legion, 12th District, Florida Welcome! The March 1919 Paris Caucus set in motion The American Legion. Membership swiftly grew to over 1 million, and local posts sprang up across the country.

We are The American Legion Department of Florida 12th District We Serve Brevard, Indian River, Saint Lucie and Martin County North of the Saint Lucie River. The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Today, membership stands at over 2.4 million in 14,000 posts worldwide. The posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines. Over the years, the Legion has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans and produced many important programs for children and youth.

Thank You to everyone that made our Fall Picnic Fundraiser Event a huge success. Thanks to the Committee for planning and executing a great event and thanks to everyone who came out and supported the event. There are to many names for me to mention, and I would not want to leave someone out, so thank you again for everything you do for each and every Legion Family, we can't do it without you. Bavo Zulu!!! Our Spring picnic is going to be on Saturday March 27th and plans are already being made, so please put it on your calanders and planners now..

We are just a few days away from our second goal date of 7 Oct. The Goal 55%
Congratulations and thank you to Post 001, 40, 81, 171, 328, 348, 358, 366, 420, and the leader of the pack Post 425 for all meeting or exceeding the goal already. We have SEVEN Post that are now at last months goal or higher on the way to the 55% Unfortunately we have (EIGHT) of our 25 post that still have not met the last goal of 50%. some are not making progress, some are close a few are not doing well at all. I am asking those Commanders to do whatever it takes to get things rolling. Those buddy checks should all be done, now its time to call them back and ask them to renew early and not wait till the clock runs out. Start with all of your Officers they all should be paid for 2027, they were sworn in for 2026-2027. I found two officers in one Post and one in another had not paid thier 2027 dues yet that is unsat. Start in house lets get this done. If you think you need help please ask.

From Department Commander Bob Matheson,

I want to thank each and everyone for the work that has been done to get to the National Membership Goal of 50%. Originally it was posted that the Department of Florida had missed the goal by 16 members, and that we were at 49.98%.

I just reviewed the National Membership Report and am proud to say that WE DID MAKE THE GOAL!!!!

The National Report shows that the Department of Florida is at 50013 members and that our percentage is 50.01!!!

Congratulations Team Florida for all your hard work. We will have many more goals to face, but I am confident with the help of each Post and our members that we can continue to move ahead and reach each and every challenge!!
