Volunteers are the heart that keeps art at The Joe, and we’re grateful for people like Kelly Klein who help make The Joe Center for the Arts such a welcoming and inspiring place for artists, neighbors, and visitors.

How long have you been volunteering?
Kelly: “I began volunteering at The Joe in 2024, after a broken toe sidelined my summer activities.”

What inspired you to get involved?
K: “I began painting again after dabbling in it about 10 years earlier and discovered our wonderful local art center. After submitting my work for an exhibit, I wanted to give back by volunteering as a docent.”

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
K: “The highlight of my time at The Joe is definitely the people—the board members and volunteers, as well as the locals and visitors who walk in the door. Sharing the joy of art and our amazing local resources is very fulfilling.”

What role do you usually help with?
K: “I try to help in whatever way I can, most often as a docent during exhibits, but also distributing posters and helping out during the Festival of Trees.”

What makes The Joe special to you?
K: “I believe The Joe Center for the Arts is an inspiring and impressive reflection of our small but very talented community. It reaches out to all age groups and abilities, offering educational opportunities and varied exhibits throughout the year.”

Do you have a favorite exhibition or memory from your time at The Joe?
K: “The very first exhibit I participated in will always be memorable. I remember half hiding my artwork as I walked in, feeling intimidated by the other artists—but then I discovered the kindness and variety of artists who made me feel like I belonged.”

Anything else you'd like people to know about volunteering?
K: “Volunteering at The Joe is truly rewarding. I’ve made many new friends and met people from all walks of life. It’s especially fun to watch kids in the art corner and see what they create—art brings a smile to so many faces.”

Thank you, Kelly, for helping keep art in the heart of Port St. Joe.

❤️ Join us in thanking Kelly for supporting the arts in our community.

Congratulations to student artist Adriana Smiley, whose work has been selected as the District II winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition.

Adriana's painting, which was featured in this year’s Student Art Show at The Joe, will be displayed in the United States Capitol for the next year, and she will also receive a paid trip to Washington D.C.

A special thank you to PSJHS art teacher Julie Hodges for the encouragement and dedication she brings to her students.

This summer, The Joe Center for the Arts is bringing creativity to life—on canvas and on stage.

Whether your child loves to make, explore, or perform, our summer camps offer a chance to build confidence, try something new, and create something meaningful.

This year’s Music, Art & Drama Camp—presented by The Joe and The Port Theatre—invites young performers to step into the spotlight—learning, rehearsing, and performing a musical in just one week. From building characters to working as a team, students gain confidence, creativity, and the thrill of performing for a live audience. No experience needed—everyone has a part to play.

Two sessions available:
June 1–5 (Grades 2–6)

Thank you to everyone who joined us Friday night for the opening of Larger Than Life & Tiny Art.

It was a wonderful evening—celebrating the work of 20 artists and more than 90 pieces exploring scale, perspective, and the way we see the world.

With so much to take in—from bold, expansive works to intricate details best seen up close—the experience is one that truly unfolds in person.

Congratulations to our award winners and honorable mentions—and a special thank you to juror Claire Ratliff for her thoughtful selections.

If you missed it, the exhibit is now on view at The Joe Center for the Arts through May 29.

Come experience it for yourself.
