The Florida Department of Health has issued the attached Mosquito-Borne Illness Advisory after several sentinel chickens tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV).

At Pasco County Mosquito Control District, we've been actively responding since our surveillance first indicated elevated virus activity. Our teams have already increased mosquito surveillance and implemented targeted mosquito control efforts in the affected areas, and those enhanced operations are continuing to reduce mosquito populations and help protect public health.

While the detection of West Nile virus in sentinel chickens is an important indicator that the virus is circulating in local mosquito populations, it also demonstrates that our surveillance system is working exactly as intended providing an early warning so we can respond quickly and strategically.

Residents can help protect themselves and their families by following the Drain & Cover message:
🦟 Drain standing water around your home each week to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
🦟 Cover exposed skin by wearing appropriate clothing and using US EPA-registered insect repellent when spending time outdoors.

If you are experiencing unusually high mosquito activity, please report it to PCMCD so our team can investigate. https://www.pascomosquito.org/

Together, through surveillance, targeted mosquito control, and community participation, we can reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in Pasco County.

On April 23, 2026, the U.S. Army Reserve marks 118 years of service to the Nation.

Since its establishment in 1908, more than 1.3 million Warrior Citizens have answered the call to serve. Today, nearly 9,000 Army Reserve soldiers are mobilized and/or deployed across 25 countries, supporting U.S. Army and Joint Force requirements.

Army Reserve soldiers are Twice the Citizen, bringing the discipline of military service and the expertise of civilian careers together to build combat-ready formations whenever the Nation calls. 🇺🇸

"As the enabling capacity for the Army, our role has never been more critical," said Lt. Gen. Robert D. Harter, Chief of Army Reserve and Commanding General, U.S. Army Reserve Command. "The Army Reserve is driving on its purpose – building and delivering combat-ready Soldiers and formations at time of need, when the Nation calls."
