Oregon citizens take action, Part 2!

"Albany City Council voted 4 to 2 Wednesday to end its use of AI-powered Flock license plate recognition cameras. . . . One camera was placed in downtown Albany in 2025, but was turned off this February after a City Council vote. Councilors were concerned about how data from the camera could be used, and wanted more community input before resuming the program. . . .

One resident, Kyle Tyler, said Albany should follow the other cities that have cut ties with Flock due to mistrust in the company. 'We've seen enough to decide that we don’t want this technology here,' said Tyler."

Albany City Council voted 4 to 2 Wednesday to end its use of AI-powered Flock license plate recognition cameras.

Way to go, La Pine!

"The La Pine City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to no longer move forward with a proposed data center, bringing relief to a passionate crowd that had been strong in opposition to the project. The vote in front of a packed house at the La Pine Senior Center came after hours of public comment."

The La Pine City Council voted unanimously to stop moving forward with a proposed data center after strong opposition from residents. Community members packed the meeting, raising concerns about water, energy use, noise and economic benefits.

Let us remember the first Memorial Day, on May 30, 1868, following the Civil War. On that occasion, James Garfield, later elected president, said, “[t]he faith of our people in the stability and permanence of their institutions was like their faith in the eternal course of nature. Peace, liberty, and personal security were blessings as common and universal as sunshine and showers and fruitful seasons; and all sprang from a single source, the old American principle that all owe due submission and obedience to the lawfully expressed will of the majority. This is not one of the doctrines of our political system—it is the system itself. It is our political firmament, in which all other truths are set, as stars in Heaven…. [t]he Nation was summoned to arms by every high motive which can inspire men. Two centuries of freedom had made its people unfit for despotism. They must save their Government or miserably perish.”

Two centuries of freedom had made its people unfit for despotism. May it be so.
