Happy Marine Protected Area (MPA) day!! Marine Protected Area is a term used globally to describe areas of the ocean that have been designated to conserve natural resources, ecosystems, and/or culural heritage. Not all MPAs are alike, and here in Port Orford we have 4 unique marine areas that have designated for conservation. We are proud to support the Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve, Redfish Rocks Marine Protected Area, Cape Blanco Marine Research Area, and Blacklock Point Marine Conservation Area 🌊

Didn't know about all of these sites? Well don't worry, we'll continue celebrating MPA day throughout the week and let you know about all the unique characteristics of these sites and their different designation πŸ€™

Show some support for Oregon Sea Grant! Sea Grant is an essential partner to our community providing support to our fisheries, fishers, researchers, educators, and students. Sea Grant has funded multiple student interns for our team, has provided funding for fisheries and aquaculture research in Port Orford, supports K-12 programming through the Oregon Coast STEM Hub, organizes Discover Local Seafood tours to raise awareness around our local fisheries, and puts together free safety trainings for our commercial fishers. Sea Grant programming is at risk with federal budget cuts, so please consider signing the linked letter to urge Congress to continue funding Sea Grant programs.

Dear Oregon congressional delegation: We, the undersigned constituents from Oregon, are writing to urge your support for federal funding for the Sea Grant Program in fiscal year (FY) 2026. Sea Grant is funded in the Commerce-Justice-Science (CJS) appropriations bill and is in the National Oceanic an...
