Port Orchard Rotary’s Annual Progressive dinner tonight was amazing. We started at Peninsula BevCo with appetizers. Oh boy, they kept on coming and they were so good. Everything was excellent. Then, we walked down to Rustica for their excellent salad bar including gluten free pasta that turned out so good. Then ended the night at BrickHouse for entree. Flat iron steak, excellent, salmon and pork loin good. Plus, the first time we had music by Mark. He donated his time to us Rotarians. Thank you. What a night. We sit next to different people at each location, which is so fun.

It was a fun day of harvesting apples with the SKHS interact club, SK Rotary and Kitsap Harvest. All apples are for people in need in our community.

October 13 Speaker: Cole Janowski, Washington Deparment of Fish and Game - Cole works for the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife as a wildlife conflict specialist and is responsible for almost all things human-wildlife conflict across four counties in Western WA.

Cole's position focuses on promoting coexistence between humans and wildlife in a world that is rapidly changing and the overlap between humans and wildlife is increasing.

He has been in his current position now for three years and has seen a wide variety of conflicts that occur between humans and wildlife, some of which include an army of at least 50 raccoons invading a homeowner's property, a bear climbing into a tree in the middle of an apartment building complex, and countless deer with tomato cages stuck on their heads.

October 4th Speaker: Linda Kaye Briggs, District Governor 2026|2027 - Linda Kaye Briggs is a devoted member of the Rotary Club of Tacoma 8 and has been actively engaged in Rotary leadership at various levels. Her commitment to Rotary is matched by her enthusiasm for personal interests, which include traveling, walking, and spending quality time with friends. These activities not only bring her joy but also offer her a balanced perspective on life and service.

Linda Kaye's extensive experience in Rotary leadership positions has equipped her with a deep understanding of the organization's dynamics and challenges. She has held executive leadership roles within Tacoma #8, the largest club in the District. In these roles, she has successfully navigated numerous challenges, demonstrating resilience and strategic thinking. Linda Kaye regards the role of Club President as one of the most rewarding experiences, offering her a unique opportunity to lead with vision and impact. Additionally, her three-year tenure as an Assistant Governor provided her with invaluable insights into the diverse needs and opportunities of clubs of varying sizes, ranging from 15 to 275 members. This breadth of experience has made her a versatile and knowledgeable leader, capable of supporting clubs in achieving their goals.

One of Linda Kaye's most inspiring experiences in Rotary occurred in 2015 when she traveled to India with her Rotary colleagues. During this trip, she participated in a polio vaccination campaign, administering polio shots to babies. This experience was profoundly moving and highlighted the global impact of Rotary's initiatives. A particularly heartwarming moment was singing the ABCs with local children as they waited for their siblings to be vaccinated. These joyful interactions left a lasting impression on Linda Kaye, filling her with immense happiness and a renewed sense of purpose in her Rotary work.

Linda Kaye's leadership style is democratic, emphasizing the importance of involving team members in the decision-making process. She believes that inclusive leadership leads to more well-rounded and effective outcomes. By fostering a collaborative environment, she ensures that diverse perspectives are considered and collective wisdom is harnessed to address challenges and seize opportunities.

Linda Kaye's journey as a Rotarian began with a memorable and humbling experience. She was invited by a fellow Rotarian to serve lunch to cyclists who were raising funds to support sexually abused children. The gratitude expressed by the riders for her simple act of service made her feel deeply connected to a larger movement of "change agents." This pivotal moment solidified her commitment to Rotary and its mission to make a positive difference in the world.

Throughout her Rotary career, Linda Kaye Briggs has exemplified the principles of service, leadership, and compassion. Her dedication to Rotary and her extensive experience make her a valuable asset to the organization and an inspiring leader to those around her.

September 29.2026 Speaker is Ron Desmarais, Support the Enlisted Project.

Ron Desmarais serves as STEP’s Donor Engagement and Gifts Officer, bringing 19 years of experience supporting veterans and a deep commitment to service. In this role, he develops partnerships and helps secure the financial resources needed to advance STEP’s mission.

Ron is a 20-year U.S. Navy veteran who served at Naval Air Stations in Norfolk, Sigonella, Whidbey Island, Seattle, and Miami. He also deployed to Saudi Arabia and Germany and served aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln during Operation Enduring Freedom.

After retiring from the Navy, Ron earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Columbia College. He later worked as an Outreach Manager, Homeless Veterans Case Manager, and VA Benefits Advisor. Originally from Athol, Massachusetts, he now lives in Olympia, Washington. Outside of work,

Ron enjoys golf, singing, playing guitar, live music, good food, and relaxing by a campfire with his wife and puppies. He joined STEP to help make a meaningful difference for those who serve our nation.
