Did you know?

Over a 30-year career, a firefighter working a traditional 24/48 schedule is scheduled to work about 25,000 more hours than a typical 40-hour employee.

This graphic shows how different firefighter schedules compare when you look at the total hours worked over an entire career.

It’s not about asking for less work. It’s about understanding the numbers and having an informed conversation about what firefighter schedules look like today.

So many applications in just 48 hours that they had to close the application window!

Turns out, firefighters notice when a department offers a great schedule, competitive pay, strong benefits, and quality equipment.

When departments invest in taking care of their people, good things happen. Recruitment gets easier, retention gets stronger, and people line up for the opportunity to be part of it! 👏

🚨Structure Fire Rescue Highlight – Beaumont Professional Firefighters Local 399🚨

On Sunday, November 16th, Beaumont firefighters responded to a reported structure fire with a victim trapped at a residence in the area of Amarillo and Cartwright. Engine 10 arrived first on scene, confirmed a working fire, and immediately declared “Rescue Mode.” As crews forced entry, Engine 11 arrived and advanced a hoseline to the front door. With zero visibility above one foot due to heavy smoke, members of both companies initiated simultaneous fire attack and primary search operations.

Initial reports placed the victim on the first floor, alpha side. Despite a thorough search, no victim was located. Crews pushed to the second floor, and in a coordinated effort under intense conditions, Firefighter Dalton Burke (E11) located the unconscious victim. Firefighter Carter Ingram (E10) assisted with preparing the victim for extrication.

Truck 11 arrived just in time, a rare occurrence, as this truck is typically cross-staffed by the Medic 11 crew and often unavailable due to EMS calls. That day, after already handling multiple medical runs, the crew happened to be at the station when the call dropped.

Driver/Operator Trevor Jordan (E11) quickly threw a 24’ ladder to the second-floor window. Firefighter Shane Fortner (T11) entered the room and, with the help of interior crews, helped extricate the victim. Driver/Operator Dustin Romero (T11) and Firefighter Sage Brammer (M10) safely brought the victim to the ground, where Firefighter Bradley Phillips (M10) and Brammer performed a successful intubation. The victim was rapidly transported via Life Flight to a nearby facility.

From first arriving on scene to completing the rescue only 6 minutes elapsed. This was a seamless and courageous effort made possible by dedicated professionals operating at the highest level under pressure.

We recognize the following members for their direct roles in this life-saving rescue:

FF Dalton Burke (E11)
FF Carter Ingram (E10)
D/O Trevor Jordan (E11)
FF Shane Fortner (T11)
D/O Dustin Romero (T11)
FF Sage Brammer (M10)
FF Bradley Phillips (M10)

We also commend Captains Steven Evans and Justin Dilbeck for their leadership and coordination, and we extend our appreciation to all other members on scene whose teamwork and support helped make this rescue possible.

This incident is a clear example of what can be accomplished when the right resources are available at the right time. We are proud of our firefighters for their training, courage, and commitment to protecting the citizens of Beaumont — and grateful that Truck 11 was available when it mattered most.
