Tugboat Island “BIG SLIDE” Update

Today, we temporarily closed the park to conduct repairs on the BIG slide. We have a half day remaining to install the necessary braces, ensuring it is safe and ready for the kids. Please help me say thank you to this dedicated team who worked all day in the heat for 10 hours today…We know how important this park is to the children of Southeast Texas. Thank you, Trace Boudoin, Jason Woods, Jamie Pellerin, and Justin Fowler, for your hard work! And a special thank you to Chad Henslee with Indorama and Rodney Franklin with Sun State Rentals.

Surprise special Guest today! The one and only Mr Ed Hogenson!

The park will reopen tomorrow; however, please note that the slide will remain closed until the brace installation is complete.

I am thrilled to share that Tugboat Island is officially open for visitors again!

We invite you to explore our new playground feature, "The Arc Dome," along with the newly installed accessible pathways designed for wheelchair users.

***Please note that the Wheelchair Liberty Swing is designated exclusively for individuals in wheelchairs. We kindly ask that individuals not in a wheelchair refrain from using this equipment. Non-compliance with this guideline may result in removal from the area.

***We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these rules. If you observe anyone violating them, please inform the Port Neches Police. Thank you!

🚨 Tugboat Island Park Update 🌧️

We’re sad to share that Tugboat Island will not reopen as expected this week. Unfortunately, recent vandalism over the weekend, along with upcoming unfavorable weather conditions, have caused additional delays in our progress.

At this time, we do not have a new reopening date to share. The City is deeply disappointed by this setback, but our commitment to making Tugboat Island a safe, beautiful, and inclusive space remains strong.

Please note: Security cameras are now providing 24/7 monitoring of the park. Anyone caught unlawfully entering or damaging the area will be reported and prosecuted.

📣 Parents — we kindly ask that you speak with your teens and young adults about the importance of respecting this community space. Unlawful entry will not be tolerated, and the park is being monitored regularly.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this project and cares about keeping Tugboat Island a welcoming place for all. We’ll keep you updated here as things progress. 💚

Due to some unexpected delays, Tugboat Island will remain closed for accessibility upgrades through April 23, 2025.

🚧 Tugboat Island Accessibility Update 🌳

We had a productive walk-through today with the Rubberworx team working on the accessibility upgrades at Tugboat Island, and we’re happy to report that everything is on schedule! The crew is confident in the progress so far, and we’re excited about the improvements these updates will bring to the park.

Stay tuned—we’ll post another update once the work is complete and the park is ready to welcome visitors again!

🚧 Temporary Closure Notice – Tugboat Island Playground 🚧

Tugboat Island will be temporarily closed from April 9 – 18 as crews complete important accessibility improvements to better accommodate all members of our community.

If the work is completed ahead of schedule, we’ll reopen earlier and share the update right here—so stay tuned!

A dream turned into reality! ❤️🚢✨ The Tugboat Island playground is officially open, and the joy it has already brought to our community is beyond words. This space was built with love, dedication, and the belief that every child deserves a place to play, imagine, and explore.

🚢🎉 Thank You for an Amazing Grand Opening! 🎉🚢

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for the Tugboat Island Grand Opening this weekend! It was pure joy watching all the children explore and enjoy each part of the new playground. We hope you had a fantastic time at the park!

We’ll keep you updated on any temporary closures as we finish up the final touches on a few areas, but otherwise, we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy Tugboat Island as much as possible!

Special thanks to the City of Port Neches, which will now oversee the operations and maintenance of this exciting remodeled space.

For those asking about park hours, the city has signs posted that the park will open daily at 8:00 AM and close at dusk.

We appreciate all of your support—this playground was truly a community effort, and we couldn’t have done it without you! 💙
